APPLICATIONS
The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
for potential issues by the Traffic Engineering Department, which will not allow signs to be
approved over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection.

Relationship to Streets: Signs shall be designed and located so as not to interfere with the
unobstructed clear view of the public right-of-way and nearby traffic regulatory signs of any
pedestrian, bicyclist or motor vehicle driver.
Sight Distance: No sign or sign structure shall be placed or constructed so that it impairs the sight

Firestone store located at 2545 El Camino Real, Carlsbad, CA 92008, PN#: 180181.
Dear Landlord;
We are in the process of a national remodeling program for our retail stores including a change
of exterior signage to update our new image. This program will take place over the next several
years at an average cost of over $170,000 per store. In preparation of this program, we are
conducting an architectural survey ofthe store we lease from you.
We believe that our remodeling program which consists of interior painting, new counters,
customer lounges, new merchandise display fixtures, flooring, exterior painting and updated
signage will attract new customers to our store and benefit the surrounding businesses.
I have enclosed a picture of an actual store that has been painted on the exterior, to give you an
indication of the finished appearance plus signage. If your building has a brick exterior, there is
no intention on painting the brick. We also do not anticipate doing any work of a structural
nature to your building.-As a courtesy in implementing these changes, the local pemriitting board
may require that you are notified and accept the changes.
We plan to stari: this work as soon as possible. All stores in this phase will be completed in
2010 weather permitting. This is a major undertaking and we would appreciate your assistance
and cooperation.
We are not requesting any contribution for the work we will be performing, but do request your
acknowledgement of receipt of this notice and consent of this work. If you have any questions
