APPLICATIONS
The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
for potential issues by the Transportation Department, which will not allow signs to be approved
over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection.

Architectural
Review Committee
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) has reviewed your
application of a monument sign for your building located at 1535 Faraday Avenue on lot I 03 of the
CRC.
The proposed plans for a single monument sign are consistent with the CRC Design Guidelines and
therefore the submitted plans are considered APPROVED. With that said, the ARC would like to make
a suggestion in regards to the location of the sign. In the existing proposed location the ARC feels that
the monument sign might be slightly obstructed from view by a CRC common area Tipu tree located
south-west from the proposed sign location. The ARC would suggest that you consider as an alternative
to place the sign on the North side of that same driveway. Of course, if you choose this alternate
location, the sign will still have to be consistent with the approved plans, especially meet the minimum
setback (20 feet from the curb), as well as maintain the 3 foot height maximum rear sign dimension.
Again, this is only a suggestion; the ARC approves the sign to be in either location, leaving it up to you
to decide.
Sign construction may begin once a sign permit is obtained from the City of Carlsbad. Please forward a
