5. Provide an elevation for all proposed sign(s) which specifies the following:
A. Dimensions and area for all existing and proposed sign(s).
B. Materials the sign(s) will be constructed of.
C. Source of Illumination.
D. Proposed sign copy.

APPLICATIONS
The following example illustrates the information that is required for all pole, monument, and
freestanding sign permit applications. Prior to approval, all such proposed signs must be reviewed
for potential issues by the Transportation Department, which will not allow signs to be approved
over the counter. Additional time will be required for on-site inspection.

Dear Mr. Siegel,
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) of the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) has
reviewed your application for the replacement of numerous signs for your building located at
2000 Faraday Avenue on lot 49 of the CRC, the Residence Inn hotel. Your lot is located in the
commercial land use designation of the CRC.
The submitted plans show that the existing signs will be replaced with new signs in the same
locations. These signs are as follows:
1. One ( 1) entry monument sign at the main lot entry along Faraday A venue.
2. Two (2) wall signs located on the west and south elevations of the building
3. One (1) wall sign adjacent to main hotel entry on south elevation of building
4. Two (2) directional signs located adjacent to the lot entry on Rutherford Road
All of the signs will be painted with a combination of three colors:
• Pantone PMS 425c gray (satin finish)
• Pantone PMS 877c silver (satin finish)
• Matthews MP 41342SP brushed aluminum (satin finish)
These proposed colors are consistent with the CRC Design Guidelines and CRC Specific Plan.
Proposed new signs 'A' and 'C' are slightly larger in area than the existing signs. All of the
other proposed new signs ('B', 'D', 'E' and 'F') are smaller in area than the sign they are to
replace, as per this table below:

The CRC Signage Guidelines section 6.9, 'General Standards -Commercial/Retail
Development' states: Because the area for commercial/retail uses is small it is considered
unnecessary to establish detailed standards. The proposed new signs are to be located in the
same locations as the existing signs and are consistent with the CRC Design Guidelines and
CRC Specific Plan in regards to design, colors and construction. The proposed new signs are
also generally similar in regards to signage area with the exiting signs they are to replace.
Therefore the submitted plans are considered APPROVED.
You may proceed with the construction and installation of your signs once a sign permit is
obtained from the City of Carlsbad. Please forward a copy of your City sign permit to:
