Given the fact that this building is highly visible from Palomar Airport Road, a major arterial that is addressed in the Scenic Highways Element of the General Plan, and considering the existing signage restrictions along Palomar Airport Road, staff has determined the following: 1) As noted in the Specific Plan for the Airport Business Center on page 22 under Sign and Graphic Requirements for Wall Signs: In multi-tenant industrial or office buildings, each individual business may have a wall sign over the entrance to identify the tenant. Said sign will give only the name of the company and will be limited to letters six inches high. Said signs will be oriented toward the parking or pedestrian area for that building and shall not exceed a maximum area of five square feet. 2) As discussed in the Scenic Highways Element of the General Plan, and as exemplified in the sign program for Palomar Oaks Industrial project to the south of your site, wall signage along scenic corridors must be strictly controlled. Because the OPUS Plaza building is so visible, staff feels that sufficient identity exist in the project without a company-specific wall sign. The Planned Industrial zone is intended to allow corporate offices and not commercial ventures that necessitate external signage for advertising. Nat Robb April 12, 1991 Paae 2 In summary, the project identifying monument signage that exist, Opus Plaza monument and Airport Business Center monument, is for identification of the buildings on the site. Business should be directed to the Opus Plaza. Once on site, the above signage should be adequate to identify the individual tenant. The wall signs proposed have been denied because they do not conform to the Specific Plan and General Plan. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (61 9) 438-1 161, extension 4325.
