SUBJECT PS 93-21 WEST BLUFF PLAZA SIGN PROGRAM AMENDMENT
Dear Ms. Marin:
Staff has reviewed your proposal to amend the West Bluff Plaza Shopping Center Sign
Program. Your proposal to add three major tenant signs on the existing freestanding
sign is preliminarily approved. However, staff denies your proposal to add 80 square feet
of smaller tenant icientification signs to the freestanding sign. The City discourages
monument signs which identify numerous tenants, especially when individual tenants’ wall
signs are visible from street frontages. These types of freestanding signs overburden and
cluster shopping centers with too much signage.
To obtain approval of this amendment, please provide three copies of your proposed
plan without the 80 square feet of smaller tenant identification signs. If you wish to appeal
this decision, then this letter shall become the official letter of denial. This decision may
be appealed by you or any member of the public to the Planning Commission within ten
days of receipt of this letter. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Planning
Department at 2075 Las Palmas Drive in Carlsbad, along with a payment of $490.00. The
filing of such appeal within such time limit shall stay the effective date of the order of the
Planning Director until such time as a final decision on the appeal is reached. If you have
