PLAN SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS
.Two sets of the following plans shall be submitted with one copy of this application form:
1. A site plan showing: The location of the sign and business it serves, and any adjoining streets,
driveways, doorways, fire and handicap access.
2. An elevation showing: Exterior dimensions of the sign; sign materials; proposed sign copy; and colors.
The plans, completed application forms including all siznatures and the application fee can be submitted to
the Planning Department located at 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92009, prior to 4 pm.

Guidelines These guidelines are to assist the sign designer and compliment the mandatory ordinance standards.
They are Intended to encourage a high level of deslgn quality while also providing flexlbility to encourage creative
design.
01. The sign design should be simple and easy to read. Use a brief message. The fewer the words. the more
effective the sign. A simple sign with a brief message is faster to read, loola cleaner. and is more effective. Using overly intricate type faces or mixing typefaces on one sign also makes it more difficult to read quickly and
reduces the sign's ability to communicate.
0 2.Use a durable material such as MDO (Medium Density Overlay) plywood or similar wood-like material. Signs
must have a stained or painted surface finish.
3. The background color for all signs should be white.
04. The text should be in 3 colors only (too many colors compete with content for the viewen attention). Fluorescent or Day-Glo colon are not acceptable.
0 5. If a unique business logo is proposed. it's color shall not .count as one of the three tm colon. (Item 4 above).
0 6.Changeable text areas should comply with the above criteria (1-5) and should occupy no more than 50% of the sign face. Paper or non-rigid changeable ateas are not acceptable.
