The Honorable Bud Lewis
Mayor of the City of Carlsbad
1200 Carlsbad Village Drive
Carlsbad, California 92008
FAX: (760) 720-9461
Dear Mayor Lewis:
Pursuant to my conversation with Mr. Knox Williams, it has been recommmded that I apprisc
you of the various steps that have been taken by First National Bank in its attempt to obtain adcquate
tenant signage at 2011 Palomar Airport Road, commonly known as the Palomar Triad Building.
First National bank is hcadquartmed in Downtown San Diego and currently has seven branches.
Wc are very excitcd in expanding to North Counry through our proposed Carlsbad Officc. We chose
the City of Carlsbad because of the dynamic growth in commerce and its diversification of industry
sectors,
First National Bank selected the Triad Building because of two primary reasoils: 1) adequacy of
space and, 2) higher than average site visibility. However, after further assessment, it was determined
that signage on thc building alone was not going to provide sufficient exposure, especially when
traveling Wcst to East. As a means to resolve this issue, we first attempted to place First National
Rank on an existing monumcnt which fronts Paloinar Airport Road. However this was declined by the
Planning Department on the basis that only one monument was allowed since the building is locatcd in
the designated PM Zone. Following this ruling and after extensive negotiations with the landlord, it
was agreed upon that First National Bank would be added LO the “approved” Palomar Triad monument
locatcd at the intersection of Palomar Airport Road and Camino Vida Roble (refcr to Exhibit ”A”).
Thc rcquest to pull sign pcrmits was submitted by our subcontractor, Integrated Sign Associates,
last week. kIowevcr, the Planning Department’s initial reaction relative to the monumcnt, registered
some concerns and deemed questionable as to thc likelihood of it being ultimately approved as
presented I
This is where I am asking for your assistancc and advice in this manner. It is extremely
important to First National Bank that our name bc associated with the building in this way as we strive
to show our conunitment to banking this region of San Diego County. We believe that the signage, as
proposcd, is very discrete and favorably presents our namc in conjunction with the idenlification of the
building I

In the unlikely event that a solution cannot be concluded, First National Bank would
unfortunately have to seek an alternative site which would delay OUT presence in Carlsbad.
I am very appreciative of you taking the timc to understand this matter as it is deemed oxtrcmely
important to us to find a reasonable solution most expeditiously, Should you have any questions, you
may reach me at (619) 233-5588 Extension 1619. I wish to thank you in advance.
Sincerely, -
Glenn Marshall
