Debbie Fountain DEPARTMENT

Carlsbad, CA 92008
Dear Ms. Fountain,
I am writing this letter in support of saving amplified music at Tom
Giblin's Irish Pub in Carlsbad, CA. Tom Giblin's, or Giblin's as it has
affectionately been nicknamed, has been a very special part of my life for 6
years now. In fact, the live music that I have enjoyed over the years there
has changed my life.
I first began going to Giblin's on Friday nights during my first year of
teaching. It w^as recommended to me by my dad as a good Irish Pub, with
live music and better than a dance club or regular bar because of the
atmosphere and live music. My fellow teachers and I spent many nights
there during our first few years, unwinding fi'om stressful teaching days and
enjoying the Irish music I grew up on.
As a good Irish girl, I spent many St. Patrick's Days at Giblin's as
well. It was on one of these divine holidays that I met the drummer in the
band that was playing with Ned Giblin. His name is B.J. Morgan and we
were married last summer and are expecting our first baby in August.
In addition to meeting the man I married at Giblin's because he was
playing live music, he also proposed there during a live set, we had our
rehearsal dinner there, with Ned playing in the background and many other
family fimctions. While my brother was in the Marine Corps, it was always
at Tom Giblin's where we had his going away parties and then his
subsequent retum celebrations. There was never a discussion of going
anyplace else.
There is no place that my fi-iends, family, or many other people would
rather gather and celebrate the good times and enjoy an atmosphere that you
cannot find anywhere else. Tom Giblin's is not just a pub or a bar or a
restaurant but a place where, in my opinion, live music brings people
together in a way that has changed my life and I have Ned and Brenda
Giblin to thank for that.
Ned and Brenda were at our wedding and have come to be part of my
extended family. They have created a relationship with the community
through their generosity, traditions and live music appeal. There are not
many places where you can go and it feels like home. Tom Giblin's Irish
Pub is one of those places and the loss of amplified music would drastically
change that.
