Dear Sir or Madam:
Our records indicate that you were issued Permit #97-16 for an A-Frame Sign that is
located in the public right-of-way. A requirement of the permit is that the City of
Carlsbad and tiie Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency be listed as Additional Insured on
your insurance policy. The most recent certificate of insurance on file expires or expired
on 02/07/2000. If the certificate of insurance on file has not yet expired, please ask your
insurance provider to ensure that a new certificate is sent to us upon renewal. If there is
no certificate of insurance on file or if it has expired, please submit a current certificate of
insurance within ten davs (10). If a current certificate of insurance is not received by the
Carlsbad Redevelopment Agency, your permit may be revoked and/or the A-Frame Sign
may be confiscated by Code Enforcement.

NOTICE OF MUNICIPAL CODE VIOLATION
ORDER TO REMOVE
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: As the owner or occupant of the property located at
201 Oak Avenue Suite C, you are hereby notified that you are in violation of Carlsbad
Municipal Code, Section 21.41.050(2), for the placement of two banner signs on a pick-
up truck parked in the parking lot at 210 Oak Avenue. A copy of the above code
section is attached for you reference.
You are hereby ordered to be in full compliance with the provisions of Carlsbad
Municipal Code no later than September 25, 1997. For you to be in full compliance
you shall cease displaying any type of banner sign, including banner signs from the
truck. The display of any unpermitted sign makes your A-Frame sign permit void.
Your A-Frame sign is subject to removal without further notice. Ifthe A-Frame sign is
removed because you are displaying unpermitted banner signs, the A-Frame sign will
not be returned when the unpermitted signs are removed. This matter may be
referred to the City Attorney's office for legal action if you fail to comply by the above
referenced date.

NOTICE OF MUNICIPAL CODE VIOLATION
ORDER TQ REMOVE
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: As the owner or occupant of the property located at 201 Oak
Street, Suite C you are hereby notified that you are in violation of Carlsbad Municipal Code,
Section 21.35.020, regarding the display of sidewalk or freestanding signs. The violations
include the display off-site sign(s) and the display of more than one freestanding sign.
You are hereby ordered to be in full compliance with the provisions of Carlsbad Municipal Code
no later than July 3,1997. Failure to comply with this notice can and will result in the removal
of your signs without further notice.
In addition, you are hereby notified that you are in violation of your permit for fi-eestanding sign
(SSP97-16). These violations will resuh in the immediate removal ofthe fireestanding sign
without further notice.

Subject: Approval of Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Mr. Hayden:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Permit. Your application
has been approved. Attached is a copy of the approved Sidewalk Sign Permit for your
records.
The attached permit allows you to retain your sign for, 1) as long as the Housing and
Redevelopment Commission allows sidewalk signs to remain, 2) as long as the sign
continues to meet the standards outlined vsdthin the Carlsbad Village Master Plan and
Design Manual, and 3) as long as the sign is consistent with this permit approval. It is
important to note that the Housing and Redevelopment Commission will complete an
aimual review of the sidewalk sign regulations to determine their continued applicability.

Attached is the site plan showing the proposed location of my sidewalk sign.
It will be located on the grass in front of my office as indicated on site plan.
I removed my existing overhead sign today.
(This was done based on the verbal discussion I had with Debbie who indicated that the rendering
I previously submitted would be very likely to be approved if 1. The monument sign, rather than
being a painted sign, would be an attractive sand blasted wood carved type of sign, and 2. If
I removed my overhead sign.)
The status of the monument sign is that I have contracted with City Signs to construct it as per at-
tached color drawing and specifications, and I have given them a 50% deposit, contingent upon
Southland approving it. Approval of anything from Southland typically takes a long time, so in the
meantime I will move the sandwich board sign from Carlsbad Blvd., to the approved site on
Lincoln.

Calculations on determining allowable monument sign square footage:
Timeshare Resales Worldwide: 16 foot frontage 16 square feet of allowable sign area
Clothing Outlet: 15 foot frontage, 11 sq. ft used _4 square feet of allowable sign area
20 square feet total
= 10 sq. feet allowable for each sign face
Sign is 3.33 ft. times 3 ft. = 10 square feet per sign face.
I have removed my existing interior illuminated box sign.

Specifications for monument sign:
1. Double sided Redwood sandblasted (also known as wood-carved) sign.
2. The color background scenes will be painted on the redwood sign.
3. Sign to be mounted to 4" x 4" posts and then in turn installed 18" into the ground.
4. Posts to be painted white.
5. Non illuminated sign.
6. Sign is3' x3' = 9sq. ft.
Note: The tree presently located in the area where the sign is to be installed, will be removed.
Timeshare Resales Worldwide agrees to pay the cost to add additional landscaping and sprinklers
in this area. The bottom of the sign will be 12" to 18" above the ground level in order to allow
room for the plants and flowers to grow without blocking the bottom of the sign.

Subject: Application for Sidewalk Sign Permit
Dear Mr. Hayden:
Thank you for submitting your application for a Sidewalk Sign Pennit. In order for any Village business
to be permitted a Sidewalk Sign, all other existing signs must be in conformance with the Carlsbad
Village Redevelopment Master Plan. Your business currently has an intemally illuminated box sign,,
and the new Master Plan prohibits such signs. Although the sign is non-conforming under this
regulation, you may continue to keep it. However, because of the non-conforming sign, your Sidewalk
Sign Application cannot be approved.
If you wish to display your Sidewalk Sign, you will need to remove the "box" sign and submit a revised
application indicating that the sign has been removed. Once the sign is removed, you may be eligible to
add new or additional signs for your business. All new signs will require the approval of a sign permit.
For your information, I have enclosed a copy of the Redevelopment Agency's Facade Improvement and
Signage Assistance Program Application. If you elect to remove the box sign and add additional
signage, a portion of these costs may be eligible for rebate through this Program.
In the coming weeks, the City's Code Enforcement Officer will be removing all non-permitted Sidewalk
Signs. Non-permitted signs will be subject to removal at any time and without notice. To avoid the loss
of your current sidewalk sign, it is recommended that you remove it until such time as you acquire a
Sidewalk Sign Permit.
