RE: Case # RP 98-08, CDP 98-48
February 20, 2001
Dear Sirs,
We are writing to you to formally protest the proposed Hotel on Carlsbad
Blvd, between Christiansen Way and Beech St. We are a family that has lived in
Carlsbad for 40 years and are property owners within the area of the proposed
hotel. We strongly oppose the project because the density of the project will
negatively impact the neighborhood.
Though we have seen massive and unbridled growth and change within
the city at large, the area north of Grand has remained pretty much a low
density, family oriented neighborhood. We believe that the introduction of a
hotel of this magnitude will change that aspect of our community forever. The
traffic on our streets and l>eaches would increase astronomically with the influx
of the transient population that a 141 room hotel would generate. And the
benefits are non- existent.
We believe that this area of Carlsbad is about the only coastal area left
that contains the charm and beauty that has made Carlsbad a tourist destination.
The building of a monolithic hotel at this site would destroy the rights and
lifestyle of the residents in the area in favor of transient visitors who don't even
live in our city.
Also, please send us a copy of the staff report for the project.
Thank you for your time & consideration in this matter.
