Provide SPECIFICATIONS three (3) samples of sufficient size and quality to show the full ranges of color, texture and pattern. The Owner's Representative will return one sample with review comments. Address it to the Owner's Representative and show the CARLSBAD Project's title and the dates of previous submittals if it is a re-submittal. ORGANIZATION: Provide an index for each submittal; number and list the submitted items in order of their PROJECT NO: Specification Sections and paragraph. List names of the contributing Subcontractors. For submittals 9 in booklet format, bind this information in the front of the booklet. 5. APPROVAL: Mark each set of the submittal to show that it has the Contractor's review and approval in accordance JAr 28 1999 with General Conditions. 6. START OF WORK: Manufacture and fabricate signs based on the review comments from the Owner's Representative. Do not begin without the review comments on that portion of the Work. 7. SHOP DRAWINGS: Sign Contractor shall provide complete structural drawings with supporting calculations and shop drawings signed and approved by Structural Engineer, to scale, of all items showing both exterior and interior construction and full size drawings of all details affecting visible appearance. Reference individual drawings to the details, schedules and page numbers of the Drawings. 9. DELIVERY: Deliver or fabricate field samples at a location selected by the Owner's Representative. Fabricate each sample complete and including copy. Remove samples at the conclusion of the work. 10. CONTRACT SCHEDULE: Submit three (3) copies of the Contract Schedule, in the correct form and having general content acceptable to Owner's Representative, with preliminary draft of the application for payment. No Application for Payment will be processed nor shall any progress payment become due until the Contract Schedule is properly submitted and accepted by the Owner's Representative. 11. FORM: SPECIFICATIONS The Contract Schedule shall be a CPM time scaled, network diagram or bar chart showing continuous flow from left to right. CARLSBAD CORPORATE 12. ACTIVITIES: PLAZA A minimum of fourteen (14) days shall be allotted in the schedule for WND/Owner to review each submittal. PROJECT NO: 13. PROGRESS UPDATES: 9844 Prepare and submit to Owner's Representative an updated Contract Schedule once each month, or as mutually agreed. The updated Contract Schedule shall accurately reflect all previously completed and in-progress work activities. DATE: JAN. 28, 1999 14. COPY PATTERNS: All sign copy and graphics shown in the documents is for reference only. Sign Contractor shall produce film positives made by photo type position or computer generated method. Large copy shall be enlarged in stages using optical, photographic or computer graphics equipment as required to achieve precise reproduction of all elements. Submit two (2) sets of copy pattern outputs to WND for approval, with sign panel outline shown 2 pt. mm. and using solid copy. Scale of patterns to be agreed to with WND prior to output. 15. FINISH SAMPLES: Submit samples of the surface sheen and treatment of all exposed materials, such as concrete, metal, 2323 Broadway plastic and vinyl. HARDWARE SAMPLES: 619 239 2313 fax Submit two (2) samples of all exposed hardware such as glides, hinges, locks and fasteners. 17. PAINT AND SILK-SCREEN INK COLOR SAMPLES: On 8" x 8" actual material that paint or ink is being applied to, provide three (3) samples of each color, vinyl, maps, printing process, to accurately depict the material or process to WND for approval. 18. PAINT MATERIALS: Submit technical specifications for approval of all proposed paint and finishing materials to meet or exceed the quality of the following: a. As a primer on galvanized or bare metal surfaces use an etching primer, as recommended by the paint manufacturer. SPECIFICATIONS b. As an undercoat use a primer sealer, as recommended by the paint manufacturer. PAGE NO. S3 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C. After proper sanding and cleaning, apply a minimum of two (2) coats of premium quality two-step linear polyurethane, which meets all California VOS environmental requirements. 19. PROTOTYPES: These must be approved by WND prior to fabrication of any parts, panels or posts, etc. Submit prototypes of any details that may affect design intent/exterior appearance, such as panel edge treatment. Submit one (1) sample of each of the following, complete with copy: Provide complete prototypes of Sign Types 5 & 6, plus decorative mounting hardware for Sign Type 4. Submit prototypes to WND for approval prior to proceeding with production. Samples will be kept by WND for record purposes. PARKING & STORAGE AREAS: Coordinate parking and storage areas on site with General Contractor. GUARANTEE: 1. All Product and Work shall be guaranteed for one (1) year from acceptance against cracking, crazing, peeling, blistering and other defects in materials and/or workmanship. 2. All vinyl shall be guaranteed for five (5) year outdoor durability. 3. Furnish a one (1) year warranty, warranting that the factory applied linear polyurethane finishes will not develop excessive fading or excessive non-uniformity of color or shade, and will not crack, peel, pit, corrode or otherwise fail as a result of defects in material or workmanship within the following defined limits. Upon notification of such defects, within the warranty period, make necessary repairs or replacement at the convenience of Owner. a. Excessive Fading: A change in appearance which is perceptible and objectionable as determined by WND when visually compared with the original color range standards. b. Excessive Non-Uniformity: Non-uniform fading to the extent that adjacent panels have a color difference greater than the original range of color. C. Will Not Pit or Otherwise Corrode: No pitting or other type of corrosion, discernible from a distance of 10', resulting from the natural elements in the atmosphere at the project site. 1.03 TEMPORARY CONTROLS A. INTERRUPTIONS TO UTILITIES, SERVICES, AND ACCESSES: No existing utility services shall be interrupted at any time by the Contractor. Required shutdowns shall be scheduled at least one week prior to actual shutdown. The operation of valves, switches, etc. will be coordinated with the General Contractor. Lill E. S4 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PROJECT: B. TRAFFIC CONTROL, BARRICADES AND LIGHTING: CARLSBAD Install, maintain and remove all required traffic provisions and safeguards. Provide adequate barriers around CORPORATE the work to define exit ways and limits of the construction area, and to contain dust and debris within the PLAZA construction area. Maintain warning lights, temporary walkways, traffic controls and the like, as may be required by the Owner to give adequate warning and protection for pedestrian and vehicular traffic. PROJECT NO: 1.04 QUALIFICATIONS 9844 A. QUALIFICATIONS OF SIGN AND GRAPHICS TRADE CONTRACTOR: DATE Employ a sign and graphics specialist with minimum five (5) years experience to manufacture, fabricate, JAN 28 1999 assemble and install work of this Section, who is able to demonstrate experience and completed project record to the satisfaction of WND. Submit two (2) copies of five (5) similar completed projects, in size & cost, with contact information for each. 1.05 EXISTING CONDITIONS A. VERIFICATION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS AND DOCUMENTS: Sign Contractor shall visit the Site to inspect all existing conditions and to verify all dimensions, which are related to the fabrication and/or installation of sign or graphic items. Sign Contractor shall thoroughly review these documents, checking conditions and dimensions shown. Notify WND of any discrepancies in the documents. Written dimensions shall have precedence over scaled dimensions. The Plans and Drawings 2323 Broadway shall be followed for quantity of sign items, message wording and references to the Drawings. The Studio 201 Specifications shall have precedence over information noted on the Drawings. San Diego California 92102 619 239 2312 2.00 MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS 619 239 2313 fax MATERIALS A. CONCRETE: Refer to and follow Section 303-6 of the Standard Specifications (1994 Green Book) for public work construction. Unless specified otherwise on drawings, all concrete on the project shall be a standard mix of natural color with a medium pea gravel, minimum 3250psi. Provide flat, smooth faced metal forms as required in the sizes and shapes indicated on the drawings. Make sure concrete is vibrated well in forms to reduce air pockets. All concrete will be poured with at least 48 hours notice to the General Contractor. Concrete will not be re- tempered; concrete cannot be placed if more than 90 minutes old. A mechanical vibrator is required on most pours. SPECIFICATIONS The contractor is responsible for protection of work. All work deemed unsatisfactory or damaged will be PAGE NO replaced by the contractor at his expense within ten (10) days of notification by the Owner's Representative. S5 - = - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Contractor will submit a design mix for approval, five (5) days prior to scheduling any concrete pours. PROJECT: CARLSBAD B. ALUMINUM PLATE: CORPORATE For exterior surfaces of sign, provide 1/8" flat panel (not rolled stock), alloy #3003, H14 mill finish or as PLAZA required to meet fabrication or engineering requirements. C. ALUMINUM "U" CHANNELS: PROJECT NO: Provide aluminum of the necessary shape, wall thickness and alloy to meet fabrication, engineering and code 9844 requirements. D. ACRYLIC PLASTIC: DATE: Provide plexiglass as manufactured by Rohm & Haas or equivalent. Finish shall be clear non-glare unless 28 1999 otherwise noted on the Design Drawings. B. HARDWARE: Provide and install all incidental hardware necessary for the proper functioning of the sign. Hardware shall be stainless steel. F. FASTENERS: Exposed fasteners shall be permitted only where specifically stated in the Drawings, and shall be stainless steel, and painted or finished to match adjacent surfaces, unless otherwise specified. 2323 Broadway G. STAINLESS STEEL ITEMS: Studio 201 Provide a low carbon content stainless steel, alloy #302 or #304 of 18 gauge or thickness as necessary. VINYL: 619 239 2313 fax Shall be 3M premium grade vinyl unless otherwise specified, with a minimum five (5) year exterior and seven (7) year interior guarantee. ELECTRICAL WIRING AND EQUIPMENT: Provide and install all electrical materials, such as ballasts, transformers, lamps, lamp sockets, connectors and all other equipment necessary for proper sign functioning. All equipment shall be new and approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., as published in the latest edition of Standards for Sign Safety. All electrical wiring, raceways and equipment shall be concealed within sign structure, building or landscape as appropriate. 2.02 FABRICATION A. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: SPECIFICATIONS Contractor shall provide and pay for underground locator service to identify all subsurface utilities prior to PAGE NO start of excavation. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PROJECT: B. POST AND PANELS: CARLSBAD All post and panels shall have minimal seamed construction with all joints finished smooth. No exposed CORPORATE fasteners shall be used except for access panels where approved to be attached with pan head screws painted PLAZA to match adjacent surface/material. To prevent corrosion due to electrolysis on metal signs, separate all ferrous and non-ferrous metals with neoprene or vinyl spacers,. and stainless steel fasteners. PROJECT NO: C. COPY APPLICATION: 9844 The Project Alphabets are AdobeTM fonts which the Contractor shall obtain at their own cost and shall be used for all copy applications, except as otherwise noted on the Drawings. All letter forms shall follow these alphabets, and the size and placement of copy shall follow the dimensions and spacing indicated on the DATE JAN 28 1999 Design Drawings and/or approved copy patterns. Letter spacing shall conform to standards shown and kerned optically to the acceptance of WND. Lines of copy shall be straight and parallel to the sign format, unless otherwise specified. Edges of letters, number and symbols shall be smooth and continuous, with straight and curved portions reproducing the original forms exactly, with corners sharp and true. Pay particular attention to rounded letter forms, as these extend slightly above and below the normal line of copy. All forms shall be free of ticks, line waiver, discontinuous curves and other imperfections. 3.00 EXECUTION 3.01 FINISHING: 2323 Broadway A. PAINTING: Studio 201 Surfaces of all items requiring a painted finish shall be properly prepared. Tool marks and other San Diego 9212 imperfections shall be filled and sanded or buffed out. Joint filler shall be sanded flush and smooth. Clean 619 °.7 2312 surface before applying paint or letter by removing all chalk, dust, dirt grease and oils. Sufficient primer 619 239 2313 fax coats or undercoats shall be applied to achieve a smooth and uniform surface. All painted items shall be spray painted, following the paint manufacturer's recommendation concerning thinning and application. Apply additional coats when undercoats, stains or other conditions show through the color coat of paint, until paint is of a uniform finish, color and appearance. PANELS: 1. Linear Polyurethane Paint: Provide pre-treatment and primer in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation. Add ultra-violet inhibitors to paint subject to sunlight exposure. 2. Clear Linear Polyurethane Finish: Provide pre-treatment, primer and finish coat in accordance with manufacturer's recommendation. Apply 1.5 to 2 mils to dry film thickness. 3. Graffiti Coat: Apply a non-yellowing, clear, low gloss hard film suitable for application on Linear SPECIFICATIONS Polyurethane on metal as a finish coat over all signs. Follow manufacturer's instructions on number PAGE NO of coats for exterior use where spray can painting may be expected. Spray application per S7 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - manufacturer's instructions. Verify gloss with WND prior to fabrication. Supply WND with written directions on graffiti removal procedures, per manufacturer's instructions. Use Dunn Edwards Ultrashield or equivalent. CONCRETE BASES 4. Concrete Sealing: After full curing and finishing of concrete elements are complete, apply Graffiti Melt as manufactured by Genesis Coatings or equivalent and per manufacturer's recommendations all around. Provide cleaning and reapplication instructions to Owner. B. SILK-SCREENING: Inks shall have a light fastness rating of 7-8 on the din 16525 (Wool Scale) or equivalent industry standard. Ink type shall be acceptable to the manufacturer of the substrate used. Screens shall be 254 polyester monofilament, mesh tensioned to no less than 18 newtons. Ink coverage shall be even, uniform and opaque unless otherwise specified. C. INDIVIDUAL CUT-OUT LETTERS: Provide individual cut-out letters from acrylic, aluminum or stone in thickness and colors as noted on the Drawings, Computer Laser Cut or Water-Jet Cut as provided by Architectural Fabricators, Sacramento, CA or equivalent.
