This memorandum provides statistics from the previous year on license plate readers. In 2019, the
License Plate Readers scanned a total of 85,412,989 in the City of Carlsbad. Of those scans, there were
1,759 hits on wanted or stolen vehicles and 15,602 .stolen license plates.
The police department recovered a total of 92 vehicles, with 15 of them being unoccupied and 77 of
them being occupied. A total of 126 subjects were arrested as a result of the active LPR hits. A
comparison of LPR arrests and recoveries over the past two years is below:

Additionally, a total of 45,549 queries were conducted for investigative cases, resulting in numerous
case clearances through the use of LPR. These cases ranged from hit and runs, to burglaries, to missing
persons and homicides.
