The police department's COVID19 report on 4/13/20 listed the following Domestic Violence (DV)
statistics:

Th_e above statistics represent the calls for service reported to police department communications that
initially referenced DV, and the number of arrests the police department made for DV. the report below
wa·s changed to show the total number of DV reports the police department took during the respective
period of time. This includes all DV ar~ests and reports that may not have been classified as a DV call for
service based on the information initially provided to dispatch by the reporting party, but after officers
responded and investigated the incident, a DV report was taken. An example would be a noise
complaint or welfare check reported by a neighbor that resulted in a DV report when police officers
arrived and investigated the situation.
It should be noted that police department policy requires officers to make an arrest for a DV related
offen·se with very few exceptions. Therefore, the majority of DVcrim·e report cases taken, result in
arrests by either resp.anding patrol officers, or if the offender has fled prior to officers' arrival, then later
by investigators. However, it should also be noted that officers are required to document DV related
incidents that do not amount to an actual violation of the law. These documentation reports are
included in the DV report totals below, but do not result in an arrest as there was not an actual violation
of law. These documentation reports for DV incidents provide a basis for further investigation upon a
subsequent call for service involving the same persons.
The DV statistics under these new measurements are as follows:
