Re: Coronavirus Response Update 55
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the City Council with an update on the city’s
response actions related to COVID-19. This memo focuses on actions and information that are
new since the last update.
Emergency Operations Center
• Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and
response operations and information sharing.

Human Resources
• Drafted telecommuting extension memo to be distributed city-wide
Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure

Self-quarantined while waiting for test results 1
Police Department
• Officers wrote five more COVID-19-related parking citations, bringing the total to 64.
• Began voluntary COVID-19 antibody testing for department personnel, as the Fire
Department has been doing. All employees who want this testing should be able to get
it in the next two weeks.

Economic Development
• Conducted three joint webinars hosted by the city, Chamber of Commerce and Carlsbad
Village Association that have had over 300 registrants.
• Sent seven joint e-mails on pandemic issues to all businesses in Carlsbad.
• Working with 200 local businesses on COVID-19 economic response and recovery.
• Working with the Carlsbad Village Association to poll businesses about the potential
closure of State Street to vehicle traffic.
Parks & Recreation
• Provided 1,342 meals during the past week to Carlsbad residents 60 years of age or
older through senior meal program.
o 779 meals were delivered to residents’ homes by staff; 563 meals were picked
up at the Senior Center by residents.
o Total number of meals provided represents a 92% increase in the average total
number of meals served before the pandemic.
• Launching Virtual Hot Rods & Cool Treats event tomorrow. Virtual event including
tutorial on how to make ice cream, a car themed craft and a video compilation of classic
cars
• Picked up boxes of donated fresh produce from the Carlsbad Strawberry Company and
re-distributed pieces of produce within the senior meal program.
• Delivered shade canopies and folding tables to the Barker Family’s food drive, held
during the lunch pickup program at Carlsbad High School.
Library & Cultural Arts
• Extended the due date for library materials that are currently checked out. Due date
has been extended to July 14, 2020.

• Responded to 14 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and
Communication & Engagement Department’s email.
