Re: Coronavirus Response Update 67
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the City Council with an update on the city’s
response actions related to COVID-19. This memo focuses on actions and information that are
new since the last update.
Emergency Operations Center
• Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and
response operations and information sharing.
Regional status of outbreak (All data from June 4 at 5 p.m.)

Public Works
• Removed road barricades and cones along the beach early this morning to reopen
parking along Carlsbad Boulevard, Ponto Drive and Ponto Road by 6 a.m. today.
• Put up six banners in the Village this morning to recognize graduating seniors from our
local high schools: Carlsbad High School, La Costa Canyon High School, Sage Creek High
School, Pacific Ridge School, Army and Navy Academy, Carlsbad Village Academy and
Carlsbad Seaside Academy.
Parks & Recreation
• Changed site signage at north beach and Agua Hedionda Lagoon beaches to allow for
passive recreation activities, in accordance with the updated county public health order.
• Reopened parks parking lots to full capacity and assisted Transportation staff in
reopening parking along Carlsbad Boulevard.
• Launched virtual senior classes on functional yoga with Pilates and how to edit photos in
Apple's Photos app.

• Provided 1,291 meals during the past week to Carlsbad residents 60 or older through
the senior meal program
o 754 meals were delivered to residents’ homes by staff, 537 meals were picked
up at the Senior Center by residents
o Total number of meals provided is an 84% increase in the average total number
of meals served before the pandemic
• Picked up boxes of donated fresh produce from the Carlsbad Strawberry Company and
re-distributed pieces of produce through the senior meal program.
• Delivered shade canopies and folding tables to the Barker Family’s food drive at
Carlsbad High School.
Community Development
• Update on building permit activity:

Human Resources
• Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure: all 45 employees who may have
been exposed have been cleared to return to work.
Communication & Engagement
• Communicated via city communication channels about the following topics related to
the COVID-19 public health emergency:
o Latest data on case numbers, testing, hospital capacity and other related
information
o Special City Council meeting on June 4 to discuss beach parking
o Beach parking and park parking lots open (with exception of State Beach parking
lots)
o Reminder of public health order rules
o Banners recognizing graduating seniors
o Potential contact tracer scams
o Updated open and closed dashboard
o Online community services and activities
o Family movie night
o Culinary lab cooking class
