FIFTH FACE MASK DO ATI D CONGREGATE CARE SUPPORT DONATION
The County of San Diego began requiring residents to wear a face covering when in public beginning
May 1, 2020. On June 29, 2020, the County of San Diego donated an additional 36,000 face masks to
the City of Carfsbad's Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The total number of masks received from
the County is now 219,000. To date, approximately 170,000 masks have been delivered to the Carlsbad
community, 32,000 of which recently went to Carlsbad businesses as a part of Economic Development's
We're Open Campaign. The masks are for use by employees and residents, will facilitate the reopening
of allowed businesses, and will be made available to Carlsbad's most vulnerable populations as need is
identified.
In addition, for the first time, as a result of coordination with Carlsbad's congregate care facilities, and in
consultation with the County of San Diego, Carlsbad received:
• 70·gallon containers of hand sanitizer
• 516 8oz. containers of hand sanitizer
• 6,100 gowns
• 12 boxes of Nitrile gloves
These supplies will be delivered to long term care, residential care and other facilities in Carlsbad.
Pursuant to CMC 6.04.100, the City Manager was able to accept the donation as the Director of
Emergency Services without City Council approval, as stated below.
6.04.100 Powers and duties of the director and assistant director of emergency services.
