Re: Coronavirus Response Update 85
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the City Council with an update on the city’s
response actions related to COVID-19. This memo focuses on actions and information that are
new since the last update.
Emergency Operations Center
• Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and
response operations and information sharing.

• Closed outdoor basketball courts again after repeated problems with people using the
courts failing to maintain social distance and not following the public health order.
• Staff denied a request for a wedding ceremony to be held at Leo Carillo Ranch Aug. 29.

Staff mark the milestone of serving 20,000 meals to residents during
the pandemic through the senior meal program.

Library & Cultural Arts
• Started to disassemble the recent Cannon Gallery exhibition, Edges Frayed, a display of
work by local texture and fabric artists that had been extended to August 8 because of
the gallery’s closure during the pandemic. Patrons have been able to view the
exhibition’s artworks online.

• Communicated via city communication channels about the following topics related to
the COVID-19 public health emergency:
o Latest data on Carlsbad cases, 14-day rolling average and status of the county’s
13 triggers
o The amount that case numbers need to decrease for the county to get off the
state’s monitoring list
o Confirmed community outbreaks by month and where they have taken place
o Updated CDC guidance on when employees can return to work without a second
COVID test
o Preview of City Council COVID-19 topics
o Clean frequently touched objects
o Masks help slow the spread of COVID-19
