This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. • EOC and CERT volunteers delivered personal protective equipment and supplies to 110 local small medical offices and resupplied 32 congregate care facilities. (The virtual tour of the exhibit, Our Visions: A Celebration of the Year of the Woman, remains available online. o Curbside, online and telephone services will continue providing services in the same manner as they have been. o Interior occupancy for libraries is now reduced from 50% to 25%. o The limited interior services at Carlsbad libraries were designed for less than 25% occupancy and will continue at that capacity. • Launched a new online product aimed at job seekers and veterans who need additional assistance during the pandemic: Through a partnership with the California State Library, the library is offering Job Now/Vet Now, an online service that supports job seekers, veterans and their families with career coaching, expert resume assistance, live interview preparation and more. Live assistance is available from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Vet Now navigators trained to help veterans and families connect with valuable benefits and resources are available between 2-10 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional learning tools support patrons preparing for standardized tests and building marketable academic skills. Job Now/Vet Now is free for Carlsbad city library cardholders. CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS Nov. 12, 2020 Page 4 • Update on mail ballot drop offs: o Carlsbad’s three libraries received almost 35,000 drop-off ballots during their four weeks of accepting ballots in partnership with the Registrar of Voters to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. o Libraries across the county accepted 71% of all mail ballots dropped off in the county. Parks & Recreation • Took the following actions as a result of San Diego County moving down to the most restrictive purple tier: o Closed community centers with gymnasiums, Pine Avenue, Stagecoach and Calavera Hills, as of Nov. 12 o Closed the visitor center and historic structures at Leo Carrillo Ranch Park to public use as of Nov. 12 o Suspended indoor dining at The Canyons restaurant of The Crossings at Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course as of Nov. 14 • Update on senior meal program: o Provided the 35,000 meal under the program since the onset of COVID-19. o During the past week, provided 895 meals to Carlsbad residents 60 or older. o 507 meals were delivered to residents’ homes by staff o 388 meals were picked-up at the Senior Center by residents o Total number of meals provided is a 28% increase in the average total number of meals served before the pandemic. o Picked up boxes of donated fresh produce from the Carlsbad Strawberry Company and re-distributed the produce through the senior meal program. • Department has provided over 78 virtual recreation offerings since the onset of COVID- 19, including most recently: o Carlsbad History Highways Series: The Shipley Family and the Importance of the Founding of St. Michael’s. o All About Eyes: What Seniors Should Know About Age-related Eye Conditions - The Braille Institute San Diego discussed the leading causes of senior-related eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy. o Digital Photo & Tech Classes: Google Photo Essentials - How to organize, edit and share photos and other features of Google Photo. o Lunch at the Culinary Lab - Chef Kyle prepared Ethiopian cuisine including spriss (juice cocktail), tibs (seared beef) and the foundation of the majority of Ethiopian foods, injera (spongy flat bread).
