RAMONA FINNILA Age: 52
Community Activist
Years of city, county, and public education experience have qualified me for this office.
Currently, I am Vice Chair of the Parks and Recreation Commission (Carlsbad) and the Palomar
Airport Advisory Committee. I am on the County Noise Control Hearing Board. I serve on
Carlsbad's Juvenile Justice Panel. I am a graduate of Leadership 2000 a forum for issue solution.
I will work for a healthier business climate that is responsive to the needs of our residents. The
creation of new jobs and the preservation of our current jobs is a major issue.
I care about our environment. Conserving and enhancing our lagoons, beaches, and parks is a
top priority. In 1987 I convinced City Council to implement a recycling program. Currently, I am
working to initiate a fish hatchery in Carlsbad that will restore white sea bass for sportfishing.
I care about Carlsbad's youth. Four times I served as president of Carlsbad School District's Parent
Associations. At the high school, I chaired awareness programs on self-esteem and substance
abuse.
My husband, of 27 years, and I have raised two children in Carlsbad. I am now ready and qualified
to be your full-time representative for two terms.

DAVE SAMMONS
Businessman
Age: 32
I've lived in Carlsbad 25 years. I attended school, met my wife, and am currently raising a family
here. I believe in traditional moral and family values. I want for my family and the people of
Carlsbad the same quality of life I have had all these years. I believe that the residents of Carlsbad
enjoy a sense of community and pride unmatched anywhere in San Diego County. I intend to keep
it that way!
Once elected I will: Maintain a pro-resident position toward issues that come before the council;
Open new lines of communication between residents and city government. Example, increase
awareness on upcoming issues using the water bill as a means of communication and informal
polling; Mandate a strong presence of safety by hiring, as needed, additional police officers, fire
personnel, and paramedics; Favor programs that enhance the future of our youth; Continue to
implement Carlsbad's growth management program; Be accountable to the citizens of Carlsbad
by directing public funds so as to represent the majority opinion and not succumb to special
interest groups.
I love Carlsbad and our way of life. As a council member, I will be a strong, committed, and
passionate voice for you.

DENNIS R. BRANDMEYER Age: 45
Business Owner: Remodel Construction, Property Mgr., Broker
We are all fortunate to live in Carlsbad. I moved here in 1974 and married Denise Hoefer in 1978.
I am a small business owner involved primarily in remodel construction and property management.
I believe in personal responsibility and using a positive approach to people and problems.
Appointed to Carlsbad's Sister City Committee 2 1/2 years ago, I was elected Chairman one year
later. My community involvement also includes being President of Carlsbad Youth Baseball,
President of Carlsbad Soccer Club, several years coaching, Cubmaster and school volunteer.
As much as I appreciate what we have in Carlsbad, there are several issues that we need to
discuss and work on; our excessive use of expensive outside consultants (Split Pavillion),
undocumented workers, further efforts to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, noise pollution and
compliance with Carlsbad's Growth Management Plan.
I will accept no contributions or endorsements(IOUs) and will not trash our streets with the
biannual "Sign Wars" we endure at election time.
I have a Bachelors Degree from UCLA in Political Science and have demonstrated both ability
and committment to our city. As your Council Member, I will be informed and impartial while we
all work together to make Carlsbad even better.

I've spent 22 years in Carlsbad, raising my family, building a small business and enjoying our
special lifestyle.
I've worked the last 15 years in a variety of capacities with the City of Carlsbad to try and create
the quality of life we all enjoy.
Today, I see the future quality of life in jeopardy. Our leaders must recognize that city delivery
of services is a business that ought to operate like one. We must streamline government
process, eliminate unnecessary costs and reduce our red tape if we are to maintain and
expand upon our quality of life!
As your Carlsbad Councilmember, I pledge to work to create policies and plans which keep
Carlsbad as special for our children in the 21st Century as it is today.

JOSEPH M. VALENTI Age: 36
Property Manager
Dear Voters of Carlsbad,
My name is Joe Valenti and I am seeking your vote in the upcoming election to serve on the city
council. Some of you may have had a chance to hear me speak while others might be seeing
my name for the first time. Which ever the case I need your help to become a member of the
Carlsbad City Council.
I love Carlsbad and cannot think of another city I would rather live in. Therefore, the future of our
town is very important to me. I am very concerned that the many wonderful aspects that brought
us to Carlsbad will slowly diminish over time into a mess of traffic, congestion, and crime. As a
member of the city council I will do my best to maintain the quaint atmosphere of Carlsbad while
preserving the quality of life throughout.
I graduated from California State Fullerton with a BA degree in business and spent a number of
years working as an auditor, financial analyst, and tax accountant. I then transferred my
accounting skills to begin my own property management business. I have owned and operated
J.Michael Management Services for the last 10 years.

KENNETH G. KRUL Age: 45
Independent Businessman - Business Development Consultant
I believe that every resident of Carlsbad who wants a job should have one. We can reach this
goal by bringing new companies to our city and encouraging growth in firms already here.
I believe that we can set Carlsbad on a sound economic footing by encouraging small businesses,
broadening our tax base and seeking growth industries, without negative impacts on the
environment or Carlsbad's own unique character.
I believe that we can provide the resources to meet our residents' needs by establishing a strong,
diversified economic base within Carlsbad.
I believe in setting priorities, spending municipal resources for the benefit of all Carlsbad residents,
and avoiding unproductive projects.
Carlsbad is a great place to live and work. The prosperity of our city rests on our vision of
Carlsbad's future; our creativity in meeting the challenges to that vision; and the leadership to
accomplish that vision.
My career in science, healthcare and industry presents a record of vision, creativity and leadership.
With your vote, I can bring these qualities to city government in Carlsbad. I will work to put the
past behind us, resolve today's issues and act now to provide a brighter future for all the people
of Carlsbad.
