Subject: Final Clearance Report on Compacted Filled Ground.
Dear Mr. Parker:
At your request, we have inspected and tested the fill ground placed
on the reference lot belonging to Dr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Grier.
It is our understanding a proposed wood frame, residential structure
is to be constructed on the site.
All vegetation and other rubbish was removed from the area to be
filled. The native ground was then scarified. watered, and rolled
with a sheepsfoot compactor, to provide a bond between the in-place
natural soil and the fill material to be placed,
The fill was placed in six (6) inch layers, and compacted to not less
than 90 percent of the maximum dry density by means of a sheepsfoot
mller.
The contractor’s attention was called to areas of low compaction.
These areas were reworked and recompacted to 90 percent or better
of the maximum dry density.
Field density tests were taken at intervals of.not more than 2. 0 feet
in elevation gain after compaction. The results of our observations,
field density tests, and laboratory tests indicate the compacted fill
ground has been placed at not less than 90% of maximum dry density.
The fill placed has a safe bearing value for a wood-frame house on
one foot wide continuous footings founded at a minimum depth of 1 foot
below the lowest adjacent final compactediround surface.

No expansive material was encountered during the grading operation.
The approximate areas of filled ground placed under our control and
approximate locations of field density tests are shown on the enclosed
Site Plan.
The field density tests were performed in accordance with A.S. T.M.
D1556-58T. sand cone method. The results are presented as follows:

Laboratory compaction tests were performed on samples of the exsisting
fill material. The soils were tested according to the A.S.T.M. Desig-
nation 1557-58T method which uses 25 blows of a 10 pound hammer drop-
ping 18 inches on each of five (5) layers in a 4-inch diameter, I/30 cubic
foot mold. A summary of the results of the tests are presented as fol-
