Subject: Interim Report of Rough (Mass) Grading, Hart Apartments, 4016 Garfield
Street, Carlsbad, San Diego County, California
Dear Mr. Hart:
In accordance with your request and authorization, GeoSoils, Inc. (GSI) is presenting this
interim report of rough grading at the subject site. Grading and processing of original
ground, within the property boundaries, was obsen/ed and selectively tested by a
representative of GSI on a part-time basis during the earthwork phase of development.
The scope of this report includes a review of site conditions, including field density and
laboratory testing data, and preparation of this summary letter.
The work performed to date Is in general conformance with the recommendations
contained in our referenced reports (GSI, 2004 and 2003), and with the grading ordinance
of the City of Carlsbad, San Diego County. California. Field testing indicates that fills
placed under the purview ofthis report have been compacted to a minimum 90 percent
relative compaction. Laboratory testing generally indicates that soils, exposed at finish
grade, are generally very low expansive (Expansion Index [E.l.] = 0 to 20), in general
accordance with Table 18-1-B of the Uniform Building Code {[UBC], International
Conference of Building Officials [ICBO], 2001 and 1997). Testing for sulfate exposure and
saturated resistivity have not been completed to date. GSI will provide the laboratory test
results when the data is made available. A final compaction report of rough grading,
including obsen/ations and testing results performed during rough grading, as well as final
foundation design criteria, is forthcoming.
The conclusions and recommendations presented herein are professional opinions. These
opinions have been derived in accordance with current standards of practice and no
warranty is expressed or implied. Standards of practice are subject to change with time.
GSI assumes no responsibility or liability for work, testing, or recommendations performed
or provided by others.
The opportunity to be of service is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please
do not hesitate to contact any of the undersigned.
Respectfully submitted,
GeoSoils, Inc.
