This is to report the results of tests and observations made in order to inspect the compaction
of filled ground placed on certain oreas of the following locations in or adjacent to La Costa
Valley Unit Nos. 1 and 2, Son Diego County, California.

The fills were placed during the period between April 20, 1964 and October 19, 1964.
The approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance
with the approved specifications are shown on the ottoched Drawing No. 1, entitled, “Locotidn
- of Ccmpocted Filled Ground”. The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was
prepared by Engineering Service Corporation.
- The classification of the Lots with regard to expansive characteristics ore summarized on page 21.
* This area is not delineated on Drawing No. 1 because the limits of its extent ore not known. -

The opproximote locations at which the tests were token and the final test results ore
presented on pages 3 to 17, inclusive, under “Table of Test Results*‘. In the tabulation,
Test Nos. 1 to 407, inclusive, refer to proposed building locations, Street Test Nos. I
to 35, inclusive, refer to proposed street locations, and Surplus Xoil Area Test Nos. 1 to
19, inclusive, refer too proposed surplus soil storage area at the extension of Algo Road.
The loboratory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents
of the maior fill materials ore presented on pages 18 and 19, under “Laboratory Test Results”.

The final results of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground has been
placed ot 90% of ,the maximum dry density a greater. It has been determined that the fill
materials, compacted to 90% of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing value of at
least 1050 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at a minimum
depth and placed five feet or more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. If
footings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the tq, of compacted filled
ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below a 1 l/2 horizontal to 1 vertical line
projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the tap of compacted
filled ground slopes.
