Subject: Report of Soil Compaction Control
Gentlemen:
In compliance with your request. we have inspected and tested the fill
soil placed on the reference site.
The site is located South of Palomar Airport Road and East of the new
Interstate 5 Freeway. The Southerly portion of the rite lies in the
Canyon de las Encinas flood plane.
The natural soils in the low lying Canyon de las Encinas area are soft
and compressible. The natural soils above the Canyon de 1~s Encinas
area are firm and well compacted.
The site was cleared of vegetation and debris. The natural surface eoile
were scarified and compacted, where practical, to not less than 90% of
the maximum density am determined by A. S. T. M. D 1557-58T test method.
The natural surface soils in the Canyon de las Encinas area were in a
saturated condition and would not support the earth moving equipment.
The natural soile in the Canyon de lam Encinan area were “Bridged” with
fill material by pushing the fill material ahead of the earth moving equip-
ment in order to form a base to support the equipment.
The fill material was placed in horizontal layers approximately six inchen
in depth, moistened, and compacted to not less than 90% of the maximum
den*W excepting the lower Sub’feet of fill “Bridging” the natural soils in

on samples of the natural compresrfble eoilr underlying the fill in the
Canyon de las Encinas area to determine the alloweble bearing value and
probable consolidation of the aoil. This work should be done prior to any
proposed construction.
This report doee not cover materiel placed kstween the fill slope and the
new Interrtate 5 Freeway.
