Subject: Addendum Geotechnical Study, Steiner Property,
Inclusion into Adjacent Lohf Property Preliminary
Geotechnical Investigation, City of Carlsbad, CA
References: see Appendix
Gentleperson:
Presented herein is Pacific Soils Engineering, Inc.'s (PSE) addendum geotechnical
study for the inclusion of the Steiner property into the preliminary geotechnical study of
the Lohf property (PSE, 1998), located in the City of Carlsbad, California (Figure 1).
In preparation of this addendum letter, literature review (references), aerial photographic
analysis (photo nos. AXN-8M-71, -72 and -73) and site geologic reconnaissance map-
ping has been accomplished, and the results are presented on the enclosed 40-scale
tentative map (Plate 1).
Our work indicates that geologic conditions are similar to those of the adjacent parcel
and, accordingly, the descriptive geology presented in our reconnaissance report is ap-
plicable to the Steiner property. Importantly, minor amounts of alluvium and undocu-
mented artificial fill occur over the site, as shown on Plate 1, and these units will require
removal and recompaction. It is anticipated that alluvium removals will range from two
(2) to fifteen (15) feet. The existing undocumented fill will require complete removal. It
is anticipated that these removals will range from two (2) to ten (10) feet deep. It is an-
ticipated the alluvium and undocumented fill can be reused as compacted fill provided
that all deleterious material is removed.

Foundation recommendations are expected to be similar to those outlined in PSE
(1998).
Based upon the above discussion, PSE concludes that the discussion and recommen-
dations which been presented in the preliminary geotechnical study (PSE, 1998) are
applicable to the Steiner property.
