Distances between supports should be based on temperatures and
the specific application. Because non-metallic conduit is lighter in
wp;,lht, it does not require as strong a support system. The fol-
It g chart illustrates the support requirements as outlined in the
National Electric Code based on 500C (1220F) air temperature and
900C conductor temperature.
Plastic conduit should always be installed away from steam lines,
etc. Support straps should be tightened only enough to allow for
lineal movement caused by expansion and contraction.

F CORPORATION
C' How To Use
Surface Preparation: All joint-wall surfaces must be clean, sound, and frostTfree. Joint walls must be free of oils,
grease, curing compound residues, and any other foreign matter that might prevent bond.
Ideally this should be accomplished by mechanical means. '
Bond breaker tape or backer rod must be used in bottom of joint to prevent bond.
Priming: Priming is typically not necessary. Most substrates only require priming if testing indicates a
need or where sealant will be subjected to water submersion after cure.
Consult Technical Service or Sikaflex PrimerTechnical Data Sheet for additional information
on priming.
Mixing: Pour entire contents of Component 'B' into pail of Component 'A'. Now add entire contents of
Color-Pak into pail and mix with a low-speed drill (400- 600-rpm) and Sikaflex paddle. Mix for
3-5 minutes to achieve a uniform color and consistency. Scrape down sides of pail periodically.
Avoid entrapment of air during mixing.
Color palk must be used.
Note: When mixing 3-gal unit two containers of Component'B' and two Color Paks must..
be used.
Application: Recommended application temperatures 40E-1 OOF. Pre-conditioning units to approximately
70F is necessary vvhen working at extremes. Move pre-conditioned units to work areas just
prior to application.
Apply sealant only to clean, sound, dry, and frost-free substrates. Sikaflex-2c should be
applied into joints when joint slot is at mid-point of its designed expansion and contraction.
When placing self-leveling grade, poursealant into joint slot in one direction and allow sealant
to flow and level out as necessary. Tool as required.
To place non-sag grade, load directly into bulk gun or use a -follower plate loading system.
Place nozzle of gun into bottom of j'oint and fill entire joint. Keeping the nozzle deep in the
sealant, continue with a steady f low of sealant preceding nozzle to avoid air entrapment. Also,
avoid overlapping of sealant since this.also entraps air. Tool as required.
Foruse in horizontal joints in trafficareas, the absolute minimum depth of thesealant is 1/2 in.
and closed cell backer rod is recommended over open cell to offer greater support.
Limitations: 0 The ultimate performance of Sikaflex-2c depends on good joint design and proper
application.
0 Minimum depth in working joint is 1/4 in.
Maximum expansion and contraction should not exceed 50% of average joint width.
Do not cure in the presence of curing silicones.
Avoid contact with alcohol and other solvent cleaners during cure.
Allow 3-day cure before subjecting sealant to total water immersion.
Avoid exposure to high levels of chlorine.
Do not apply when moisture vapor transmission condition exists since this can cause
bubbling within the sealant.
0 Avoid over-mixing sealant.
Minimum depth of sealant in horizontal joints subject to traffic is 112 in.

Basic Use:
HLIVI 5000 is a cold-applied, seamless, elastomeric membrane,
between slab waterproofing system which provides superior
protection against the penetration and lateral movement of
water.
HLIVI 5000 is a single component moisture curing bitumen
modified polyurethane, specifically formulated for hand appli-
cation by squeegee to horizontal areas. Applied directly from
the container, no mixing is required. HLM 5000 is supplied in 5
gallon (18.92 liter) pails and 55 gallon (207.9 liter) drums.
HLIVI 5000T is a single component, moisture curing, bitumen
modified polyurethane which is specially formulated for hand
application by trowel to vertical surfaces. Applied directly from
the container; no mixing required. HLM 5000T is supplied in 5
gallon pails only.
HLM 5000S is a specially formulated version of 500OTforspray
application. HLM 5000S is supplied in 5 gallon pails and 55
gallon drums.
HLM 500OR is formulated for application by roller to vertical
and some horizontal surfaces.
HLM 5000 is designed especially for use as a flexible con-
tinuous waterproof Ing membrane; above grade, between two-
courseconcrete, between masonry construction and bituminous
toppings and for exterior below grade waterproofing of
masonry.
Uses include almost any application where migrant or stationary
water is an actual or potential problem; such as: parking gar-
ages, pools, plaza decks, malls, shower stalls, mechanical
rooms, fountains, wetrooms, bridges, highways, balconies, below
grade slabs, betwee
-
n floor waterproofing for high-rises, walls,
culverts, around drains, sea-walls, dams, reservoirs, concrete
tanks as well as many other similar type areas where superior
waterproofing is required.
Among the many advantages are their rubbery characteristics
which permit nominal expansion and contraction without losing
bond to the substrate, thus protecting structurally sound, oc-
cupied areas from water penetration.
Effective in temperatures ranging f rorn —40*F to +1 80*F (-4*C
to +82*C). H LM demonstrates excellent resistance to bacterial
attack and the deteriorating effects of many acids, alkalies,
and salts.
Elaborate surface preparations, costly time consuming lapping,
seaming and precutting are not required.
HLIVI 5000 should not be used as an exposed or wearing sur-
face, norshould itbe used whereasolvent odor is objectionable
such as in close proximity to areas where food preparation or
processing take place during time of application. All concrete
surfaces should be water cured; do not use liquid curing
compounds.
SPECIFIERS NOTE: For concrete yet to be placed which will
be coatedWith HLM, specify wet or papercuring and light steel
trowel finishing for best results.
Companion products to HLIVI 5000 are Primer 756, used for
priming metals over which HLM will be applied and Reducer
990, used to clean tools and equipment.
TECHNICAL DATA
HLM 5000 has the following physical properties. (See table for
cured properties).
Shelf Life:
SIxmonthsforHLM 5000 in unopened containers when stored
under dry conditions between 40*F and 80'F (+4*C and 37*C).
Since HLM 5000 is a reactive product a thin skin mayform dur-
ing storage which is easily removed. Skinning over does not
necessarily affect use of the product.
Coverage:
Five gallons per 125 sq. ft. (1.65 liters/ml) should produce a
cured membrane 55 (:t5) mls (1.4 mm) thick when HLIVI 5000 is
applied to lightly steel troweled concrete surfaces. A minimum
thickness of 55 mils is recommended to adequately cover
nominal surface variations.

The ease of application, plus its rubberlike seamless nature,
makes HLIVI 5000 a far more practical and reliable waterproof-
ing system than"hot mop," multiple-felt systemsorfitted pieces
of plastic or rubber sheeting.
Properly applied, according to recommended procedures,
HLM 5000 offers unparalleled economy and waterproofing
protection.
INSTALLATION
Preparatory Work:
For best results, all concrete deck surfaces should be lightly
steel troweled to a fairly smooth finish. New concrete must be
properly water cured, at least 14 days old, and surfaces must
be dry.
-1 1 Just prior to oe during application, all dust, dirt and other con-
taminants must be removed by broom or preferably by vacu-
uming.
Air void pockmarks or honeycombs should be opened up to
allow HLM to fill the cavities completely. Air entrapment within
such voids may cause blisters.
Prestriping:
Prior to application of the overall waterproofing membrane, all
joints, cracks and openings around protrusions should be sealed
by prestriping or caulking. Included are static joints and cracks;
working and expansion joints; vent, drain pipe, post penetration
and cove preparations. (Detailed diagrams of these procedures
are available from Sonneborn.)
The opening or post-penetration is given a preliminary coating
(55 mils) of HLM with a trowel orstiff bristle brush and allowed to
cure before applying final membrane.
When the final membrane is applied, the overall thickness over
joints and cracks, at coves and around penetrations should be
110 mils (2.8 mm) - 55 mils of prestripe material and 55 mils of
final membrane.
Static Joints and Cracks:
Joints and cracks less than 1/e inch (3.22 mm) should be filled by
prestriping. Material should be applied so it both fills and over-
laps the joint or crack to width of 4 inches (101.6 mm) on
each side.
Working or Expansion Joints:
All such joints over 1/6 inch (3.22 mm)wide must be sealed with a
SonolasticO sealant. Care, however, should be taken to prevent
the waterproofing membrane I rom adhering to the joint sealant.
This could cause sealant or membrane failure. Such adhesion
can be prevented by applying a coat of liquid household car-
nuba wax over the cured sealant, and prestriping as above.
Joints treated in this fashion will function independently of the
overall waterproofing membrane.
Metal Preparation:
All metalshould bewire brushed or sandblasted tobright metal
and then primed with Sonneborn Primer 756 prior to applica-
tion of HLM.
Vent, Drain Pipe and Post Penetrations:
Clean metal surfaces to bright metal and prime. Remove dust,
debris and any other contaminants from voids. Seal with
Sonolasti& sealant, as previously indicated. HLM willadhereto
PVC pipe without priming.
Voids less than % inch in width should be prestriped 4 inches
wide on the base slab; continue up the penetration toa distance
equal to 1 inch (25.4 mm) above the wearing surface of the
top course.
Voids or reglets exceeding 1/8 inch should first be sealed with
SonolasticO sealant, then prestriped to a minimum width of 4
inches on the base slab, continue up the penetration to the
height of the wearing surface of the top course.
Cove Preparation:
Where the vertical wall meets the slab, the area should be pre-
striped 4 inches wide on the base slab and on the vertical wall to
the height of the wearing surface of the top course.
Where a cant strip is specified, the cove should be prestriped to
a minimum of 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) beyond the cant strip on the slab
and on the vertical surface. The cant strip is then set in the wet
membrane. Coat the exposed 45*face of the cant strip with
liquid household carnubawax. When the wax ha's dried, the face
should then be prestriped with HLM to a minimum of 2 inches
(50.8 mm) beyond the strip on both the slab and the vertical
walls and allowed to cure.
The final or overall membrane is applied ..~; ~, ~ 0 overthe cant strip and up the vertical wall to the top of thewe~ _J —0
ing, the~ll face. In the event that joints result from the toppi
be caulked with a Sonolastic' sealant and the HLM termin 1 inch below the top of the wearing surface.

HLM 5000 is a single component modified polyurethane applied
WdAw directly from the container with no mixing required. INPPP
For horizontal application use HLM 5000, simply dump con-
tents of pail and spread immediately to insure best workability.
Best results are obtained by marking off 125 sq. ft. (11.5 m2)
areas and evenly spreading the contents of a 5 gallon (18.92
liter) unit with a rubber-edged squeegee.
The above procedure is repeated until the entire surface is
covered.
For vertical installation select the grade of HLM 5000 that best
meets individual job application requirements, HLM 5000T for
trowel application, HLM 5000S for spray application and HLM
500OR for roller application.

The integrity of the cured membrane on a horizontal surface
may be verified by damming the entire area and flooding with
water to a minimum depth of 1 inch, and allowing the water to
stand for a minimum period of 24 - 48 hours. Make a visual
inspection of the bottom surface to determine if any water
penetration has occurred. If repairs are necessary, area should
be drained and allowed to dry before reapplying membrane

May be used in any horizontal joint
designed in accordance with
accepted architectural/engineering
practice. Joint width should be 4
(four) times anticipated movement,
but not less than 1/4 inch wide.
Movement should not exceed 25%
of the minimum joint width.
Joint Dimensions:
Minimum joint size is 1/4 inch by 1/4
inch. For joints 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide,
the width to depth ratio should be
equal. Joints 1/2 inch or larger
should have a sealant depth of
1/2 inch.
Surface Preparation:
For good adhesion, the joint inter-
face must be clean, sound and dry.
Depending on the substrates, or
presence of curing agent, dust or
contamination, the joint surface
may require a thorough wire brush-
ing, grinding, sandblasting, solvent
washing and/or a primer.
Joint Backing —
Bond Breaking Tape:
Closed cell polyethylene joint back-
ing must be used to control depth of
sealant bead. Joint backing must
be dry at time of sealant applica-
tion. Where depth of joint will
prevent use of joint backing, an
adhesive backed polyethylene tape
should be installed to prevent three
sided adhesion.
Application:
Vulkem 245 is easy to apply with
conventional caulking equipment.
At 750F. and 50% R.H. Vulkem 245
will cure overnight. The cure rate is
reduced at lower temperatures.

Tooling is generally not required.
Where necessary, light tooling can
be done immediately. Excess seal-
ant and smears adjacent to the joint
can be removed with Xylol or Toluol
before sealant cures.
Maintenance:
Damaged sealant may be repaired
Consult your Mameco Distributor
