Specifications for the rubberized asphalt concrete material are contained in the Year 2000 "Greenbook" Standard Specifications, Section 203-113 and 11.4, ARHM-GG-C. Parts of these specifications and the submittal by Califwnia Commciat Asphalt Corporation are included on the tables. Of the 14 samples tested two had test results way outside of the specifications limits. These samples were obtained on February 28th and March 25e and are identified by laboratory numbers 3745 and 3723, respectively. The tests showed no rubber modifier, very low asphalt content and gradations that are more typical of a coarser inrx. With the exception of the two samples mentioned above, the asphalt-rubber binder based on the total weight of aggregate Is consistently low, ranging from 6.3% to 7.2% with an average of 7.0% (0.5% less than the minimum specified). Of the samples tested for Crumb Rubber Modifier (CRM) the results were also consistently low, ranging from 5.6% to 11.6% with an average of 9.40/6 (8.64/a less than the minimum specified). Compared to the narrow specification range, the CRM had a high variability. Hveem tests were performed on samples obtained on February 21, 22, and 211h, identified by laboratory sample numbers 3681, 3682, 3733, respectively. For non-rubberized asphalt concrete the minimum. specified Hveetn stability is increased to 35. As implied by the specifications, the addition of rubber generally lowers the stability. The relatively high stability test results, compared to the specified minimum are consistent with low CRM values. Three of the seven samples had gradations on one sieve size slightly out of specification.
