Field Notes/Activities/Observations:
On November 10th and 11th, 2009, Dudek habitat restoration specialist Stuart Fraser conducted irrigation and plant inspections for the Rancho
Santa Fe Road Bridge Offsite Mitigation Area. Plant inspections were conducted on November 10th and 11th and included inspecting delivered
plants and verifying placement of shrub species. On November 10th, an irrigation spray cover check for the system servicing the upstream
mitigation areas (east of the waterfall) was conducted. Dudek met with Green Horizon representative Antonio for all coordination. Comments and
recommendations are included below.
Plant Inspections:
1. The November 10th and 11th inspection consisted of checking in shrub container plants and assisting the contractor in placement. All
plants delivered appeared to be healthy and adequately rooted in their container but not root bound. All containers appeared free from
weeds and non-beneficial insects. Dudek made recommendations for placing particular wetland plants, based on site hydrology and tree
placement. Dudek recommended immediate planting of all shrub species. The following plants were inspected:
Anemopsis californica (1 gal.) - 3000
Scirpus amenricanus (1 gal.) -2610
Baccharis salicifolia (1 gal.) - 408
2. Dudek recommended protecting all container plants from herbivore browsing while in the storage area. A protective barrier will discourage
animals from browsing on plants concentrated in the staging area prior to planting is recommended.
Irrigation Inspection:
On November 10th, Dudek conducted the irrigation spray coverage check for 2 valves in the quarry and 5 valves east (upstream) of the
waterfall. An additional circuit in the quarry still requires a spray coverage test.
Minor adjustment of head placement was recommended for the second irrigation circuit running in the quarry.
Recommendations were made to increase cover.
Minor adjustments of head locations were made for circuits east (upstream) of the waterfall. Reducing overspray was
recommended for heads adjacent to native habitat. 2 additional heads were recommended for installation on a 'finger' of

mitigation area not included in the coverage area and minor adjustment of head location was recommended for a few heads not
adequately covering the mitigation area. Green Horizons agreed to all of the changes in the field.
c. Dudek recommended installation of an additional circuit in the upstream portion of the creek shown in the plan as irrigated, but
with irrigation not installed. It was recommended that an additional 11 heads was included in open patches amongst mature
native vegetation. Dudek recommended securing the mainline, laterals and heads to prevent damage during high water
conditions.
