Proposed Toyota Carlsbad Renovation'. ' : : •. '
'6020 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, California
April 3, 2007 . . . ' . '• CTE Job No. 10-8882G
I.Q. SITE DESCRIPTION AND PROPOSED' DEVELOPMENT
I .
. The proposed project is located on'the east side of the 6000 block of AvehidaEncinas in Carlsbad,
California. Land use in the area is primarily light commercial. The project area is a.rectangular
shaped parcel that is adjacent to Interstate '5 '(I-5_ along its eastern boundary, and. is bounded by
I '
existing Toyota of Carlsbad structures, to the west. These structures are to remain in place: The
I
'building on the western portion of the site is to remain. Previously existing structures and parking
areas to the east of 'this building have been demolished in preparation for .the proposed
I improvements A large wall, from the previous structure remains at the southeast corner of the site,
'adjacent to 1-5, and, will be integrated 'into the new structure. The site 'is generally flat with an
'approximate (pre-graded) elevation of'59 to 65 feet above mean sea level (msl), sloping gently to the
I south..
2.0 FILL PLACEMENT
Compacted fill was placed ,during recent grading to prepare .the subject building pads ,fpr the
I 'construction of the proposed service center and parking structure. Fill material was derived fro1non '
site sources. Fill was generally placed in uniform compacted lifts at near optimum moisture content.
I .
' Grading was performed using standard heavy-duty construction' equipment.
10 TESTING
Testing was .'performed to supplement field observations in promoting compliance v'ith the
I '
'
applicable project requirements.' Testing of compacted' fill addressed by this report was conducted
between March 2 and March 13, 2007 Field-testing of the compacted fill material was conducted in

I accordance with ASTM D2922 and D3017 (nuclear method). Results of the field-testing inaicate
I .that fill materials were compacted to the appropriate minimum percentage (90%) of the laboratory
maximum dry density as determined by test method ASTM D- 1557.. .
I
Tabulated. results of the field 'compaction testing perforthed are provided in the attached Table I,
I,
"Compaction Test Summary." 'Laboratory determination of the reference compaction values for the
"Laboratory fill materials is provided in Table II, Test Results." The full-size plan sheet submitted
I ' herewith shows the approximate location of the. compaction tests performed. .
.
4.0 TREATMENT OF BUILDING PADS
To prepare the building pads, areas receiving fill were over-excavated to the depth of competent
I natural material, ranging in depth from 5.5 to 15.q feet below proposed grade Bottoms of
I overexcavations, were verified by a CTE geologist Based on the preparatory grading performed and
our understanding of the project, we anticipate that all proposed building foundations will bear
entirely in properly recompacted engineered fill.
. 5.0 ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATION
All additional grading and backfilling should be obeived and tested. to assure conformance with
recommendations presentd herein and in the apróved project soils report (Geotechnicäl
