Attention: Ms. Carol Long, Mr. Jonathan Weldy .
S'ubject: Pavement Design Report, Vistamar at San Pacifico, Area B-2, Carlsbad,
California
Dear Ms. Long and Mr. Weldy:
As requested; submitted herewith are pavement design recommendations for the private
••. street and driveways within the Vistamar at San Pacifico Development (Area B-2 of
Poinsettia Shores) in the City of Carlsbad, California.
* Representative samples of near subgrade materials were recently obtained and tested to
determine their A-values. Testing was performed in accordance with the latest revisions
to the Department of Transportation, State of California, Material & Research Test Method
No. 301.

The recommended pavement sections are based on the R-value data and the design
criteria presented in the City of Carlsbad Standard Drawings. The recommended
pavement sections are presented in the table on the following page: • • • •

All pavement installation, including preparation and compaätiori of subgrade, compaction

accordance with the City of Carlsbad guidelines and under the observation and testing of
the project geotechnical engineer and/or City of Carlsbad

If adverse conditions are encountered during preparatióh of the subgrade materials (i.e,,

Pavement Construction and Maintenance t *
- - . •- - . . .
The recommended pavement sections are meant as minimums, if thinner or highly variable
., ". pavement sections are constructed, increased maintenance an repair may beneeded.
Positive site drainage should be maintained at all times: Watershould not be allowed to
- pond or seep into the ground. If planters or landscaping'are adjácent.to paved, areas, •
'measures t should be taken to minimize the potential for water to .enter the pavement
section. If the ADT (average daily traffic) or ADTT (average daily truck traffic) inceases
.' beyond that intended, as reflected by the traffic index(s) used for design, increased
c maintenance and repair could be required for the pavement section
