In accordance with the requirements of the City of Carlsbad, we have performed laboratory tests on
representative samples of the import Class 2 Aggregate Base (AB) material placed on April 22,
2004 as part of the pavement section for a portion of Town Garden Road within Bressi Ranch
located in Carlsbad, California. Four representative samples of the Class 2 AB were sampled and
transported to our laboratory. Laboratory tests performed on the representative samples included
sand equivalent (in accordance with ASTM Test Method D2419) and sieve analysis (in
accordance with ASTM Test Method C136). The results of the laboratory tests are presented on
Tables 1 through 3.
Based on the City of Carlsbad requirements and the Caltrans specifications (Section 26-1.02A) as
indicated on the tables, the representative Class 2 aggregate base samples generally met the city
requirements. However, the samples on Town Garden Road at Station No. 19+50 and 17+00
were slightly out of specification (i.e. all three were 1-percent over the maximum value) with
respect to the percent passing the No. 4 sieve for the sample at Station No. 19+50 and the No. 30
and No. 200 sieves for the sample at Station No. 17+00.
