Dear Ms. Molina:
Presented herein are Pacific Soils Engineering, Inc.'s (PSE) additional recommendations for
asphalt disposal for the La Costa Ridge Project, Neighborhood 2.6, located in the City of
Carlsbad, California. The following recommendations are made at the request of the City of
Carlsbad.
As stated in the referenced asphalt disposal recommendation report, placement of the asphalt in
compacted fills underlying the recreation pad is acceptable, from a geotechnical perspective.
Unsuitable soil removals in the recreation pad area extended to approximate elevations of 332 in
the southeast corner and 337 in the northwest corner. Finishgrade elevation is approximately
348. As such, between 11 and 16 feet of fill will be placed in the recreation pad. Provided that
the placement of asphalt within the recreation area is acceptable to the governing agency, asphalt

may be incorporated into the compacted fill section to within three (3) feet of finish grade, within
the boundaries of the recreation pad and subjacent slope. Asphalt should not be placed within
seven (7) horizontal feet of the slope face. Oversized asphalt pieces should be placed in the fill
in accordance with PSE's rock placement recommendations presented in the referenced reports.
The opportunity to be of service is appreciated. If you have any questions please contact the
undersigned.
Respectfully submitted
