Ms. Jagodzinski:
In accordance with the request of Mr. Walter Brown, of the City
of Carlsbad, we are providing this addendum to the referenced
As-Graded Geotechnical report.
The city is requesting additional information or a clarification
regarding expansion potential and bearing capacity of the rough
graded pads. The site was rough graded to construct street
subgrade, sheet graded pads, and adjacent slopes.
The sheet graded commercial lots consist of bedrock cut areas,
and compacted fill soil primarily derived from the bedrock
cuts. The soils exposed at pad grades generally exhibit an
expansion index (per UBC 29-2) of medium to high.
Foundation recommendations were not included in our referenced
as-graded report because specific building and foundation plans
were not available, and the pads are usually fine graded later to
suit the proposed buildings, parking, driveways, etc. The

anticipated bearing capacities will be typical for compacted fill
soils and sedimentary bedrock. The capacities will vary
depending on the foundation depth, type, and soils (i.e. fill or
bedrock). A specific foundation investigation should be
performed by the soils engineer for each proposed building. This
investigation should include but not be limited to: foundation
beáiicapacfties, fine grading recommendations, pavement
sections, expansive soil mitigation recommendations, surface
drainage recommendations, and cut/fill transition mitigation if
applicable.
The referenced as-graded report should be reviewed prior to site
improvements being made, and for any geotechnical foundation
investigation performed.
This opportunity to be of service is sincerely appreciated. If
you should have any further questions, please do not hesitate to
contact the undersigned at your convenience.
Very truly yours,
