An evaluation of the site was performed by our firm in August 1987.
Results of the investigation were presented in our Soil and
Foundation Investigation Report, Project No. 87-l 68, dated
August 13, 1987 .

Site Grading
Site grading consisted of the excavation and recompaction of
the upper 1 to 3 feet of the on-site soil.
Gradina Period
Grading operations commenced on May, 1988. Our final
inspection of the utility .backfill was on March 27, 1989.

3.1 Jurisdiction
Grading activities for the development were under jurisdiction
of the City of Carlsbad.

A field observation work sheet was prepared by our Soils
Technician for each observed day of grading activity and was
reviewed by our supervising Soils Engineer.

Yerification
We concur that earthwork construction performed under our
observation was performed in accordance with the project
specifications, the Soils Engineer’s recommendations, and the
City Excavation and Grading Code.
Field Testina Procedures
Test Methods - Field density tests were performed with a
6-inch sand cone in accordance with the procedures outlined in
A.S.T.M. Test Method D1556, and the Nuclear Test (A.S.T.M.
D2922 and D3017).
Number of Tests - The results of the 166 field density tests
performed during this phase of grading are presented in the
“Summary of Field Density Tests.” Field testing was used to
determine the degree of compaction as fill materials were
being compacted.

Compaction Characteristics - Soil samples obtained from the
field were visually identified. The procedures outlined in
A.S.T.M. Test Method D1557-78 were used to determine the
compaction characteristics of the fill materials. The results

The probing and testing indicated that the trench backfills
have been properly compacted and are considered suitable for
the intended use. Utility trenches observed consisted of
sewer, water, storm drains, electric, and gas.
Footina Observation
The building pad footing excavations were observed by a
representative of our firm. The exposed footing trenches were
found to be satisfactory and suitable for the placement of
concrete.

On-site drainage is provided by surface gradients sloping away
from the structures to suitable discharge facilities
