Note: See attached report for description of the grading, classification of the soil and tabulation of the test results. A Foundation Report
describing the conditions at the site was prepared by Foundation En-
gineering Company on October 25, 1973.
Date of Certificate: August 1, 1977, September 1, 1977
I hereby certify that I have personally supervised the testing and inspection during placement and compaction
of the fill described in this report, and on the basis
of these inspections and tests it is my opinion that the work was done in full compliance with the Carlsbad City Building Code, the foundation engineer's report, and in
general conformity with the approved grading plan. This
certification does not include loca
or dimensions of fills.

General
-acted fill was placed to providelevelbuildingsites, yardanzas and to provide proper drainage of the site.
After remval of a septic tanknear JefferscmStreet, the excavationwas back- filled with axqxcted fill. The m depth of conpacted fill is about five feet, except in the septic tankbackfill area.
Description of Fill
Prior to placen-ent of the fill, the area was cleared of waads and debris. The loose natural soil was processed as reammended in the Foundation FQxxt. The natuml ground was scarified to a depth of six inches, mistened and compacted. After the ground surface was prepareditwas inspected and found take firm and suitable for support of the fill. Therraterial used for the fill was obtained fmm the site and inport and amsistedof silty sand, som ofwhichcontained rock fragn-ents.
Fill was placed inlevellaxelayers ahout six inches in thickness, mistened tonear optimmmisture, and ampacted. Waterwas placedonthe corrpletedpr- t&m of the fill before placemnt of additicmal fill. All fill was placed in this-er and the topofthe fillwas sloped to drain towardthe street.
The approximate extentofthe grading is shownan the attached drawing, "Lma- tion of Density Tests". The drawingwas prepared from a plan supplied to us.
Testing
Field density tests ware taken at freqmnt intervals near the fill surface. Representative samples of the soil ware taken to the la?mraizxy for WC- tion and classification tests. The relative density of the fill was deter- mined franthe compaction tests.
Wheredensity tests~relow, additional rollingwas requastedand the area was retested.
l%elccations of the density tests are given an the attached drawing showing the extent of the fill. lke results of the tests are shownon the table "Sumnary of Tests" , and a descripticm of the test nethods used is attached.

Conclusions and=- dations
It is amcluded that the fill was placed in an orderly and efficient -er, that the field density tests are representative of the density of the fill placed, and that allporticols of the fill are compacted td at &east 90 percent ofthehdensity, detelmined in the laboratory in accordancewith the re- quirenents of the City of Carlsbad.
It is vdsd that the provisions given in the Foundation RqxtdatedCcto- her 25, 1973, be used as abasis for design. Conditicr~s atthe sitewere similar to those anticipated in the original fomdation report.
Ths soil is considered tobenczx%pansive. Ebctings on aqxcted fillshxldbe designed in accordance with the follming recomdations. Spread faAjngs should he desiqed for the allowable fou&ki~pressure set forth in the Foundation F+
Poe.
In accordance with theFomdati~Fqort,avalueof2000 poundsper square foot rmybe used for acontinuous footing having awidth of12 inches andadepthof 12 inches.
kinfor~trequirerrents, if any, for the floor slake skuldbe as determined bythe structural engineer.
Continmus spread footings shouldbs reinforcedwith atleastone no. 4 bar of steel.
'Ibe topofthe flcor slab shouldbe above finished grade and the groundsurface shouldke sloped todrain away fromthe slab.

TEST METHODS
FIELD DENSITY TESTS
Field density tests were made by the sand volume method in accordance with the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) Test Method
D 1556. The density was determined by obtaining the dry weight of the
soil from a hole approximately eight inches deep and determining the
volume of the hole with calibrated sand.
COMPACTION TEST
The maximum density and optimum moisture content were determined in the
laboratory in accordance with the American Society for Testing Materials
(ASTM) Test Method D 1557. The compaction test was made in a four-inch
diameter mold having a l/30 cubic foot volume, with 25 blows of a ten- pound hammer falling 18 inches on each of five layers. A new batch of
soil was used for each point on the compaction curve.
CLASSIFICATION TESTS
Classification tests were made in accordance with American Society for
testing materials (ASTM) Test Method 2488. The No. 4 sieve has 3116 inch
openings. The largest particle that will pass a No. 200 sieve is about
the smallest that can be seen with the unaided eye. Gravel is that frac-
tion larger than the No. 4 sieve; sand is the fraction that passes a No. 4 sieve and is retained on a No. 200 sieve. The fraction passing the No. 200
sieve is a silt if non-plastic and a clay if plastic.
EXPANSION TEST
The expansion index test is in accordance with the Uniform Building Code Standard No. 29-2. A moistened sample was compacted in a four inch dia- meter ring with 15 blows of a 5.5 pound hammer having a fall of 12 inches
per inch of compacted sample. If the degree of saturation ranged between 49 and 51 percent for an assumed specific gravity of 2.7, the specimen was loaded with 144 pounds per square foot and flooded. After 24 hours the expansion was noted and the expansion indices calculated.
