Report on Compacted Filled Ground
Certain Lots of~&non Park Unit Nos. 1 and 2 CITY OF CARLSBAD
Carlsbad, California Building Department
Gentlemen:
This is to repwt the results of tests and observations made in order to inspect the canpaction
of filled ground placed on the following lots of Canon Park Unit Nos. 1 and 2 in Carlsbad,
California. The fills were placed during the period between May 18 and July 14, 1977.
The lots tested during this period are presented below:
Canon Park Unit No. 1:
Lots 7 to 18, inclusive; Lots 29 to 33 inclusive; Lots 48 to 50 inclusive
Canon Park Unit No. 2:
Lots 65 to 68 inclusive; Lots 72 to 74 inclusive; Lots 79 to 99 inclusive;
Lots 102 to 106 inclusive; Lots 128 to 137 inclusive; Lot 139, Lots 140 to
143 inclusive
The filled ground was placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved
specifications.
The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results of the
above-mentioned lots along with the test results of Canon Park Unit No. 3 will be presented
in a final report when the cmpaction of Canon Park Unit 3 is completed.
The final results of tests and observations indicate that the canpacted filled ground has been
placed at 90 percent of the maximum dry density or greater. It has been determined that
the fill materials, canpacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing
value of at leas: 1000 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded
at a depth of 8 inches below the lowest adjacent final ccmpacted ground surface and placed
five feet or more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. If footings ore placed

closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes,
these should bedeepened one foot below a 1 l/2 h orizontal to 1 vertical line projected
outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of canpacted filled
ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate to satisfactorily
support the proposed one and two story wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements.
Expansive soil conditions exist in the upper three feet below finished grade in the above-
mentioned lots tested during this period. It is understood that the post-tension slab system,
to be used for support of these houses, has been designed to minimize possible detrimental
effects caused by the potentially expansive soil conditions.
A plan showing the approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection
in accordance with the approved specifications will be submitted with our final report when
the compaction of lots in Canon Park Unit No. 3 is completed.
Respectfully submitted,
