STATION 17 + 00 TRROUGE 23 + 00
CARLSBAD AIRPORT BUSINESS CENTRE
CARLBEAD, CALIFORNIA
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report summarizes the results of our testing and obser-
vation services performed during earthwork construction at
Palomar Oaks Way, stations 17+00 through 23+00, from September
21, 1988 through August 21, 1989. Recommendations for site
development are provided in our Supplemental Geotechnical
Investigation dated August 22, 1989 (Reference 1, Appendix A).
The grading contractor for this project was Chilcote Inc.
Civil Engineering was provided by Bodas Engineering, Inc. who
also prepared the grading plan used as a base for our Site
Plan, Plate 1. The area covered by this report includes Lots
65, 50 a small portion of the south east corner of Lot 64 as
well as portions of Carrier Ave and Palomar Oaks Way. The
remaining lots in Unit 3 including the remainder of Lot 64
will be documented in later reports once grading in this area
has been completed.
1.1 Authorization
This report and the associated services were performed
in accordance with the provisions of our Proposal No.
SDP8-5040, dated September 22, 1988.

1.2 Scone of Services
Field personnel were provided by us to perform
observations and testing in order to enable us to develop
professional opinions. Our services did not include
supervision or direction of the actual work of the
contractor, his employees, or agents. Specifically, our
services involved the following:
a. Research and review of previous geotechnical
investigations and reports.
b. Testing and observation of earthwork operations.
C. Laboratory testing to determine pertinent
engineering characteristics of the soil and bedrock
materials.
d. Preparation of this report which summarizes our
findings, opinions, and recommendations.
2.0 SITE DISCRIPTION
Palomar Oaks Way, Stations 17+00 through 23+00, is located
north of Palomar Airport Road in the City of Carlsbad. The
site is situated in the southeastern corner of Carlsbad
Airport Centre Unit 3, and includes a narrow strip in the
northeastern corner of the Carlsbad Airport Centre Unit 1.
College Boulevard marks the northern boundary of Unit 3 and
Palomar Airport marks the eastern boundary.

3.0 GRADINQ OPERATIONS
Initial site preparation and earthwork construction was
observed and tested by Moore & Taber in November, 1985. Their
work is described in their "Report of Geotechnical Services,
Carlsbad Tract No. 81-46" Airport Business Centre Unit 1, City
of Carlsbad, California*1 dated February 25, 1987, (Reference
2, Appendix A). On September 9, 1988 the site was prepared
to receive additional fill. The existing fill surface was
scarified, moisture conditioned and recompacted. Grading
operations referenced in this report were performed during the
period September 21, 1988 through October 28, 1988, and May
11, 1989 through August 21, 1989.
Results of compaction tests are tabulated in Table 2.
Approximate test locations are shown on the attached Site
Plan, Plate 1. Density tests were performed in accordance
with ASTM D2922-81, D3017-78 (Nuclear Methods) and D1556-82
(Sandcone Method).
Maximum density and optimum moisture content relationships
were determined using ASTM D1557-78 (Modified Proctor).
Results of maximum density/optimum moisture content
relationships are included as Table 1.
Fill soils placed at the site were imported. The soil was
generated during the construction of Palomar Airport Road.
Brief descriptions of the soils are presented in Table 1.

4.0 CONCLUSIONS
In our opinion, all grading and compaction operations
were performed in general accordance with the
recommendations provided by San Diego Geotechnical
Consultants, Inc. (see Reference l), and requirements of
the City of Carlsbad.
5.0 LIMITATIONS OF INVESTIGATION
Our investigation was performed using the degree of care and
skill ordinarily exercised, under similar circumstances, by
reputable soils engineers and geologists practicing in this
or similar localities. No other warranty, expressed or
implied, is made as to the conclusions and professional advice
included in this report.
The samples taken and used for testing and the observations
made are believed representative of the entire project;
however, soil and geologic conditions can vary significantly.
The findings of this report are valid as of the present date.
However, changes in the conditions of a property can occur
with the passage of time, whether they be due to natural
processes or the works of man on this or adjacent properties.
In addition, changes in applicable or appropriate standards
may occur, whether they result from legislation or the
broadening of knowledge. Accordingly, the findings of this
report may be invalidated wholly or partially by changes
outside our control. Therefore, this report is subject to
review and should not be relied upon after a period of three
years.
