In accordance with your request, GèoSoils, Inc. has obtained a representative sample of class 2
aggregate base material being placed within the Tamarack Ave. easement in Village Q as
roadbase for the construction of asphaltic concrete pavement. The results of modified proctor
(ASTM D-1557), sand equivalent (Cal Test 217, and gradation. (ASTM D-422) tests are presented
below: - •
Modified Proctor 139.5 pcf, 7 percent moisture
• Sand Equivalent 74 .
Gradation see attachment 1 .
Testing performed to date indicates that the materials to. be used as pavement base generally meet
specifications for Class 2 Aggregate Base (see attachment 2) as presented in Section 26 of the
Caltrans Standard Specifications (1995 edition). • . •

AGGREGATE BASES
26-1.01 Description.—This work shall consist of furnishing,
spreading and compacting aggregate bases as specified in these specifi-
cations and the special provisions.
Aggregate bases are designated as Class 2 and Class 3. The class of aggregate base will be shown on the plans or specified in the special pro-
visions.
26-1.02 Materials.—Aggregate for the various classes of aggregate
base at the time it is deposited on the roadbed shall conform to the fol-
lowing requirements:
26.1.02A Class 2 Aggregate Base.—Aggregate for Class 2 ag-
gregate base shall be free from organic matter and other deleterious
substances, and shall be of such nature that it can be compacted
readily under watering and rolling to form a firm, stable base.
Aggregate shall conform to the grading and quality requirements
shown in the following tables. At the option of the Contractor, the
grading for either the 37.5-mm maximum or 19-mm maximum shall
be used, except that once a grading is selected it shall not be changed
without the Engineer's written approval.

The aggregate shall not be treated with lime, cement or other
chemical material before the Durability Index test is performed.
If the results of either or both the aggregate grading and Sand
Equivalent -tests do not meet the requirements specified for "Operat-
ing Range" but meet the "Contract Compliance" requirements place-
ment of the aggregate base may be continued for the remainder of that day. However, another day's work may not be started until tests,
or other information, indicate to the satisfaction of the Engineer that
the next- material to be used in the work will comply with the re-
quirements specified for "Operating Range."
If the results of either or both the aggregate grading and Sand
- Equivalent tests do not meet the requirements specified for "Contract
