Mr. Dempsey:
As requested. Construction Testing & Engineering, Inc. (CTE) has reviewed the referenced
structural plan sheets and calculations for the subject project. CTE beUeves that the reviewed
documents are in general conformance with the recommendations provided in our referenced
geotecbnical report However, the following was noted:
1) On Plan Sheet 6, Wall Details, WaU Number 1 ("West Slope Retaining Walls") shows a
15-incb thick footing overlain by six inches of soil, for a total embedment depth of 21
inches. Per the referenced soils report, minimum footing embedment should be 24 inches.
However, the reviewed waU calculations suggest that the wall as designed (i.e., with 21-
inch embedment) exhibits the minimum factors of safety against sliding and overturning.
Therefore, CTE finds the current WaU Number 1 design acceptable, provided that CTE is
allowed to observe the bottom of footing excavation prior to steel and concrete
placement. CTE stUl reserves the right to recommend deepening of footings, including
retaining waU footings, based on observation of exposed footing bottoms.
