SUBJECT: Del l\lar l\lanzanita (Arctostaplzslos glandulosa ssp. crassifolia)
Dear Ms. Blackburn,
The native vegetation present onsite includes southern maritime chaparral, a sensitive
coastal vegetation community typically dominated by such representative species as
chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum), mission manzanita (Xylococcus bicolor), wart-
stemmed ceanothus (Ceanotlzus verntcosus), spice bush (Cneoridium dumosum),
Nuttall's scrub oak, Del Mar manzanita (Arctostaplz_vlos glandulosa ssp. crassifolia),
Mojave yucca (Yztcca shidigera) and toyon. Based upon the biological resources
mapping, the City implemented a design that would avoid potentially significant impacts
to sensitive resources.
One Del Mar manzanita plant was located in proximity to the grading (Figure 1 ). To
ensure that the grading plans would avoid impacts to this individual, the plant was staked
and surveyed. The preliminary design plan was evaluated to avoid direct impacts to any
sensitive biological resources (including the Del Mar manzanita). To avoid potential
indirect impacts, a physical barrier between the construction activities and the sensitive
resources (including the Del Mar manzanita) will be included prior to project
implementation. In addition, all runoff resulting from park associated landscape will be
directed away from natural resources areas.
