DESILTING BASIN MAP....................................MAP POCKET HYDROLOGY MAP..........................................MAP POCKET DESILTING/DETENTION PLAN...............................MAP POCKET - BM:kb 346-34 INTRODUCTION The proposed desilting/detention basin described in this report fulfills the requirements for the flood and sediment control measures outlined in the "Environmental Impact Report for Reaches 3 & 4 of Cannon Road". The construction of Calavera Hills will result in increased discharge through the existing channel, where it is the intent of this report to provide viable attenuation of the increased discharge and to mitigate the channel siltation. An important task of this study is to determine the volume of sediment that is washed down the creek during major storms. Sediment estimation is based upon the Universal Soil Loss Equation, which takes into account basin area, particle size, soil type, and ground cover. The proposed basin should have a cleanout period of two years, or after each major storm when the maximum level of deposition has been exceeded. This report uses the 10 year 6 hour and the 10 year 24 hour storms to determine the size and depth of the detention facility. Hydrograph parameters have been borrowed from the "Hydrological Study for Northeastern Carlsbad. The attenuated discharge is permitted to flow through a trapezoidal channel which is designed to convey the 100 year discharge with 1' of free board. - BMnc %34 wp:346.43D 7/11/91 - gLP-116 INTRODUCTION, CONTINUED Approximately 5.9 square miles drain into the Calavera Creek - Mobile Home Park confluence. Sub-basins draining from the north (Calavera Creek) are labeled AI through A12, and sub-basins flowing from the east are labeled L1 through L3. The construction of Calavera Hills will increase the storm water into Calavera Creek, therefore, the purpose of this study is to attenuate these flows to the predeveloped levels for both 6 hour and 24 hour, 10 year storm events; results show: CONDITION QIW) QIWQ Existing 682 CFS 1100 CFS Calavera Hills 713 CFS 1128 CFS Development Detention Basin 660 CFS 1091 CFS HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS A detention basin built at the southwest comer of the proposed intersection of Cannon Road and College Blvd. will convey the storm flows through a combination 48 RCP riser, and 10' open channel spillway. The 48 RCP is also designed to convey low flows through a perforated dewatering pipe. The spillway is designed to safely pass the 100 year storm with no flooding to the surrounding areas. 48 RCP riser weir flow calcs: Q = C(r)dh3l2 C = Weir coeff. = 2.6 Top of riser at elev. 54' Elev. The existing condition hydrology study examines the hydrologic response to the design storm under current levels of development. A thorough search of zoning maps for the City of Carlsbad, Oceanside, and Vista overlayed with the most recent Thomas Brothers Map of the area revealed the state of development within the watershed. For the "developed condition" hydrology study, sub-basins A9, A10 and A12 are affected by the Calavera Hills development, and are modified to reflect the urbanization.
