Backfill: • Imported material consisting of natural sand or manufactured sand, existing native material, or combinations may be used for base and shading material provided it complies with gas standard 7405 (C-35) and is of a quality that will comply with compaction requirements of governmental agencies. Standard 7405 specifies the material must have a mixture of particle sizes all smaller than 3/8". • • • • • Pipe: • • • • • Minimum 30" of cover from finished suriace . Base installation requires 3" of base material on the bottom of the trench. 6° -12" of shading material directly above the pipe (6" minimum post compaction) . Backfill material must be a well distributed mix of coarse and fine material free of rocks or clods. Under the road, backfill until the subgrade of the road is reached. Require 18" minimum cover over the pipe before using mechanical compaction . Compaction must meet 90% relative compaction. Pipe material shall be schedule 40 black steel or approved equal. Joints shall be threaded or welded . Fittings shall be of malleable iron . Installation shall be in accordance with ASTM A53 Test systems in accordance with all applicable codes, regulations, ordinances, etc. Minimum requirements are as follows: o Gas Piping: Pressure 14 inch water column or less: 1 O PSI for one (1) hour. o Gas Piping: Pressure over 14 inch water column or less: 60 PSI for one (1) hour. • If any test shows the work to be defective in any way or at any variance with specification requirements, make necessary changes or remedy defects. • Test piping systems after installation and prior to being put into use, covered or concealed by insulation, backfilling or building construction. In order to renew action on a permit after expiration, the permittee shall pay a new permit fee. Any permittee holding an unexpired permit may apply for an extension of time within which work may commence under that permit when the permittee is unable to commence work within the time period required by this section for good and satisfactory reasons.
