Dated November 28, 1989
Dear Mr. Nagle,.
In response to your request, we have inspected the cut slopes and
footing excavations for the proposed subterranean garage. The
footing excavations are founded into dense sandstone.
As per our conversation, the maximum height of the garage walls
will be approximately 7.0 feet. in view of the competent
sandstone unit exposed in the footing excavations and along the
base of the cut slope, the proposed walls may be designed for an
at-rest pressure equivalent to fluid having a density of 45
pounds per cubic foot. Wall backfill above the subdrain gravel
and filter fabric should be placed in 6.0 to 8.0 inch lifts,
moistened as required and compacted to a minimum of 90 percent of
the laboratory maximum dry density. On-site material may be used
for the backfill, provided all vegetation and debris is removed
prior to placement.
The propos-ed sancf blanket underlying the garage slab may be
reduced to 2,0 inches in lieu of 4.0 inches indicated in our
preliminary geotechnical report. A 6.0 mil Visqueen or
equivalent moisture barrier may be placed directly on the garage
subgrade. The barrier should be covered by 2.0 inches of sand to
prevent punctures and to aid in concrete cur ing. On-site sandy
material may be used for the blanket provided it is free of
debris and clumps,
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
at 753-9940.
This opportunity to be of service is appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,
A.R. BARRY AND ASSOCIATES
