Gentlemen t In accordance with your request, we have performed compaction tests on the compacted fills placed in the proposed garage afcea on the subject sjLte located on Parcel 3* Portion of lot 9, Block C of subdivision of portions of 238 and 2^3 of Thumlands, Carlsbad, California. The tests were performed on December 29 and 30* 1976, during grading operations. The results of the tests are presen- ted in this report. l Site grading consisted of both cut and fill operations required to construct a flat pad area for the .proposed residential struc- ture. The configuration of the graded site is shown on the atta- ched rough plan (Plate No. l).j > Prior to the placement of any fill , the areas to receive fill were cleaced of vegetation and loose surficial soils were scarified a minimuni depth of six inches, moistened and recompacted. Natural ground1 soils located in the toe area of the proposed fill were ex- cavated in order to provide a key approximately 18" in maximum / t depth . { ' I I I SDE ^96 January ?, 1977 Page Two The fill materials, consisting of red-brown slightly clayey silty sand, were moistened, placed in six to eight inch lifts and comp-r acted to a minimum of 90$ of the maximum dry density as evidenced by field in-place density tests performed at the locations indic- ated on the attached Plate No, 1. Compaction was achieved with a sheepsfoot roller and heavy construction equipment. Field density tests were performed according to A.S.T.M. Test Method 0-1556-6**-. Moisture determinations were made for each of the density tests. The results of the tests are presented on the attached Plate No. 2, A maximum dry density determination was made on representative soils used in the compacted fill. The test was performed accord- ing to A.S.T.M. Test Method D-l557-70. The results of the test are presented on Plate No. 2.
