Subj Change request of approved permit CB071538
Once the stairs were removed, it was determined that the entire small balcony was not
structurally sound My contractor verbally asked the onsite city inspector if it could be
taken down (demolished) The inspector gave his verbal approval to demo the balcony
and remove the door to the adjacent suite and lower the existing hot water heater to the
ground floor, but requested that a change to the original permit be made to reflect this
additional work
Changes that are requested
a) Demo the existing small balcony instead of replacing the damaged wood
b) Remove the single door to he adjacent suite on the second level and place
required stud work and stucco covering
c) Lower the hot water heater and build a new enclosure on the first or ground
level

Plans for demo of stairs and partial balcony
1 want of eliminate a set of old and unsafe exterior stairs that only serve to provide access
to a hot water heater on an isolated 2nd level balcony There is a door from the adjacent
upper level suite and is also used to provide access to that particular suite's hot water
heater, so removing the stairs will not prevent any current access to any suite within the
building
a) Demo existing exterior wood and concrete stairs
b) Demo approx 3'7" of the balcony's front (it is approx 10 ' wide)
c) Install new 10"X6" beam the width of the balcony (for new support of the
balcony floor)
d) Install new metal handrail above the 10"X6" beam and flooring at a height of 36"
