Re: Building Permit CB98-1677 Expiration
As you know, the above permit for converting 3" garage to 21 1 square feet of habitable
space has expired by limitation. The contractor of record, BHI Builders did not secure
any approved inspections of the work in place. Therefore, the expired permit is null and
void and there are two options from which to choose:
1. All work associated with the expired permit shall be removed to revert the garage
back to its original condition; or
2. A new permit shall be acquired and all required inspections must be attained.
If option one is chosen, an inspection of the removed work will need to be arranged.
You may contact me directly to arrange this inspection. In order to acquire a new
permit, an application must be made as for a new permit. Plans must be drawn to
demonstrate how the addition was constructed (BHI Builders did not follow the
approved plans for CB98-1677). Those plans must be reviewed for compliance with
applicable, current codes.
When the permit is approved and issued, the responsible party will have to remove
finish materials to the satisfaction of the inspector of record to demonstrate the in-place
work matches the approved plans.

Re: Conversation w/ Ben w/ BHI
I returned a call from Ben this morning. He wanted to tell me that the key to this
house would be under the mat for the inspection scheduled today. He said Pete had
given him a time of between 9-11 for the inspection but he might not be there. I
advised him of City Policy in which inspectors are not supposed to enter houses
alone. He understood that, but he wanted me to have Pete call him from his radio or
cell phone when he is headed over to that job. I told him that Pete had given him a 2
hour window, and that was suitable. Pete and other inspectors do not use their
phones to advise contractors of their impending arrival. He became very upset and
slammed the phone down at me after screaming some pretty nasty things.
