More facilities are using electronic means for controlling access/egress such as card/keypad systems and alarmed exit devices. Many problems have arisen in the past regarding the use of electronic locking devices on any door. Many fire departments and governing agencies on the local and the state level have begun questioning the use of any electric lock on any door. About exit doors, the use of any device to block an exit (to avoid an unauthorized exit except in an emergency) is also receiving close inspection. Problems have also arisen regarding the use of door control components (UL Listed/Recognized or not) that have not been tested together to work as a system. To satisfy the increased jurisdictional requirements, Securitron has obtained two UL Listings covering immediate and delayed locking systems. XP-1 / XP-1 F FOR FREE ANO IMMEDIATE EGRESS (UL No. S4615) The XP systems are ideal for integration with card reader entiy where immediate free egress is needed. Use of the exit bar immediately releases the Magnalock® and can be made to signal "request to exit" to the access control system. The full UL Listed status of Securitron's systems typically allows woriy free compliance with building codes and Fire Department regulations. Both systems are Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and Canadian Undeiwriter's Laboratory (cUL) Listed under category SZNT; Releasing Devices . Under the system designation of XP-1, select any model 32 or 62 series Magnalock®, any model TSB series Touch Sense Bar electronic exit device and any model BPS series power supply. This configuration is intended for non fire rated doors (such as a1tjminum frame glass). For fire rated doors, the system designation of XP-1F allows selection of a Model 32 or 62 series Magnalock®, BPS series power supply and Adams Rite fire rated, switch equipped panic bar {Adams Rite Model 3000 Series). For Fire rated doors, the door must receive positive latching. If needed, the LCP series Lock Control Panels may be added for system monitoring and violation notification as a part of this Listed system. The Following Components comprise the exit control system. XP-1 (Emergency Exit) Model 32 or 62 Series Magnalock® * TSB-1 or TSB-3 Series TouchSense Bar BPS Series Power Supply B Series Battery LCP Series Lock Control Panels System Documentation XP·1 F (Fire Rated Door) Receives Positive Latching Model 32 or 62 Series Magnalock® * Adams-Rite Series 3000M * switched fire~exit hardware BPS Series Power Supply B Series Battery LCP Series Lock Control Panels System Documentation " UL Listed for Fire Rated Doors -=:= ---ff~~~~gw~@u~~r= = : : : SECURITY TECHNOLOGY FOR THE 21st CENTURY . TOUCH SEMSE DEVICES TSB-3 Clear Finish OVERVIEW On magnetically locked, non fire-rated doors, most building codes require an exit device that does not require any special tools or fmowledge. Securitron's patented Touch Sense Bar is the perfect device for this requirement. The simple act of touching the bar {even through gloves or clothing) trips an electronic sensor which immediately releases the lock. The Touch Sense Bar is the ultimate in egress reliability and safety. Having no moving parts, it does not suffer mechanical wear and no pressure is required for use which provides superior egress safety for frail or disabled persons. EASY INSTALLATION ON ANY DOOR The TSB-3 and TSH come complete with fastener sets allowing quick and strong installation on metal, aluminum-frame glass or wood doors of all types. A stainless steel door cord is supplied with both products to route wiring (16 ft. cable supplied) off to the door frame. The Touch Sense Bar is offered in three standard door opening widths (36", 42" and 48"). For a non-standard opening width, the TSB-3 can be easily cut down in the field. The Model TCP accessory bracket aids the retrofit installation of the Touch Bar on aluminum doors by covering up mounting holes used by a Jackson or Dor-o-Matic mechanical bar which may have been previously mounted. The Touch Sense Handle is sized to cover up existing mounting holes used for standard pulls on aluminum doors. It is employed to pull open inswinging doors or as an alternate push-open device for outswinging doors which provides a different look on aluminum frame glass doors. The Touch Sense Handle includes two legend plaques which state PULL or PUSH or which may be reversed to show a black or silver finish. Unique Touch Sensitive Exit Devices For Use With Magnetic Locks TSH-BK Satin Black Finish TSH-CL Clear Finish Typical installation on aluminum frame glass door with Model 62 Magna/ock,· and DK-26 Digital Entry. ~ 8/97 Page-7 The sensor operates on 12-24 volts AC or DC and is normally powered by the same power supply that operates the electric lock. If DC power ts used, polarity must be observed. Note that the sensor draws 6 mA when •at rest" and 20 mA when it 1s releasing the lock. 3.2 DOUBLE BREAK WIRING Many installations include a controlled access device such as a digital keypad or card reader. Such devices typically have a REX (request to exit) input. When dry contacts close on this input, the entry device will open the lock lor the same amount of time that has been programmed for entry. Use of the REX input for exit has two benefits: you pick up timed exiting and a1so In the case of most entry controls, the REX Input must be used for exiting to avoid an alarm condition at the door. If the REX Input alone Is used for exiting a safety/reliability problem will exist. If the entry device malfunctions, exit wlll not be possible and people may be trapped. We therefore always recommend double break Wiring which is supported by the TSB-3 because of its two pole relay. The TSB's NC contacts are used to break power to the fail safe electric lock while its NO contacts trip the REX input of the controlled entry device. This releases the lock a second time, hence the term, "double breakw. If the controlled entry device fails for any reason, direct exit is still possible. Olten, Securitron supplies all of these products and the installer expects an Interconnection drawing for all Securitron products. We provide such drawings in many of our manuals. In this case,. the replacement of the generic products shown above with Securitron products is so simple as not to require separate drawings. Just note that for any Securltron Magnalock, the red Wire denotes the •+• input and the black wire denotes Iha negative. Remember that you don't need to install the MOV with any Securitron Magnalock. Securitron 910-20080 !!t'97 ,. "').. Rev. 8197 Page-a • offers a wide range of different power supplies, so it rs necessary to consult the individual power supply manual to ldentlfy the DC output terminals. Then connect the power supply outputs to the rest of !he system as shown above. 3.4 CAUTION ON USE WITH PROXIMITY CARD READERS When a proximity card reader ls.used for entry and a Touch Bar is used for egress, there Is a small possibility of interference. The proximity reader projects an electric field of considerable intensity and we have seen rare cases where this can be picked up by the TSB. II depends on the power of the proximity reader and the nearness of the reader on the outside of the door to the bar on the inside. To make sure a problem does not exist after the installation ls complete, perform the following test. Tum the bar sensitivity up as high as you can to the point just before it Is open all the time (see Section 3.6). Then, from the outside of the door, _place your hand on t~e reader and lean your body against the door to see if the bar can be triggered. The effect of coupling the reader's energy though your body into the door, tends to Increase the sensitiVity cf the bar. If you find that the bar triggers from 1hls test, there is some interference. You have two options. It may be that the Interference is so little that when the sensor is adjusted down, there is no risk of triggering from the outside. You can experiment with this. Alternately, Securitron has developed a simple filter circuit which wlll absorb the interference from the reader. See the drawing to the right. This requires a 22,000 Micro Henry Inductor (DigiKey part # M7223-ND, JD Miller part # 70F222AI). To Install the inductor, identify the ring terminal which connects the left screw going into the bar lo the circuit board pad marked "bar". Clip this wire at the board and connect It to the left lead from the inductor. The right lead of the Inductor solders into the pad marked "bar" on the right side of the sensor. This pad is currently unused. Lay the inductor on top of the connector and you have finished. 3.5 CAUTION WITH SWJTCHING POWER SUPPLIES SOLDER ONE END Of INDUCTOR INTO PAD MARKED 'BAR' ON RIGHT SIDE OF SENSOR. CLIP WIRE FROM RING TERMINAL, REMOVING IT FROM SENSOR AND CONNECT IT TO OTHER ENO OF INDUCTOR. 0 :,: ::, 0 a: " :c 'a: < w The TSB-3 is capable of being operated by a wide variety of power supplies and does not require regulated power but a certain class of power supplies called ·switching• can sometimes interfere with operation. Switching supplies are unusual in the security industry. Most regulated power supplies are of the "linear• type. Some switching supplies can produce line noise which will affect the TSB is rendering it hard to adjust. If you find that a TSB ls hard to adjust, check the power supply. If it is a switcher, the power supply can be replaced with a linear Securltron unit or addition of two capacitors generally solves the problem. Connect one .01 mF capacitor between power supply+ and earth ground. Connect a second .01 mF capacitor between power supply negative and earth ground. See the drawing to the left. 3.6 ADJUSTING SENSITIVITY With wiring completed, sensor adjustment should be set. Note that the sensor board has a potentiometer on it accessible when the bar's end cap is removed (see Figure 6). The potentiometer on the sensor will increase sensitivity when turned clockwise and decrease it when turned counterclockwise. Tum the pot clockwise without touchlni;i the bar until you hear the relay click on. In this condition, sensitivity is so high that the unit 1s on all of the time. Slowly rotate the pot counter-clockwise until you hear the relay click off and then another 15 degrees 910-20080 8197 ,. ) . ..
