Subject: Apparent Low Strength Concrete, Cantamar (Oceanbluff) Models, Carlsbad, California.
Dear Robert:
In accordance with your request, we have sampled and tested concrete placed in the three models at the subject
project. It was noted that one of the strength tests (0015) was just below the required 28-day compressive
strength of 2500 psi. The Uniform Building Code (UBC) provides the criteria for testing and accepting
concrete in section 1905.6, "Evaluation and Acceptance of Concrete". This section states that the strength
level of the concrete shall be considered satisfactory if both of the following requirements are mer:
1. Every arithmetic average of any three consecutive strength test (average of t\Vo tests at 28 days) equals or
exceeds fc.
2. No individual strength test falls below fc by more than 500 psi.
The strength test results for the models are 2430, 2730 and 2875 with a three set average of 2678 psi. Based
upon the UBC acceptance criteria, this concrete is acceptable without further evaluation.
We recommend, however, that all test results be reported to the design engineer for their review.
