preparation, even though there are no structural changes. Business and
Professions Code.
Plans and calculations shall be signed by the California state licensed engineer
or architect where there are structural changes to existing buildings or structural
additions. Please include the California license number, seal, date of license
expiration and date plans are signed. Business and Professions Code.
ELEVATOR.
The exiting design uses the concept of “hallways” from the 1997 UBC. Please
obtain a ruling from the building department as to whether the 1997 edition may
be used for this project. Also, what about the UPC and UMC? The cover sheet
of the plans lists the 1994 edition of the UBC.
Please revise the Project Data on the cover sheet to add “A-3” for the occupancy
of the assembly areas.
The total amount of A-3 occupancy at the first floor seems to exceed the
maximum allowed by UBC Section 504.3, Exception 2. The designer should
review and comment on this [potentially major] issue.
Please revise the exit analysis as follows:

At Room 278, the exit door at the left-hand side must be shifted
northward, so that occupants exit more directly into Room 244.

exit should be shown to be into Hallway 241.

Exit #I can’t pass down a hallway. Rather, that hallway must be shown to
comply with the one-hour fire-resistive corridor requirements. Alternately
(as had been discussed at our meeting), change the width-to-length ratio

Detail, on the prints, the signage necessary adjacent to the service (for the
generator and UPS PC, UPS-c, and UPS EPC) and the grounding locations (for

Dear Pat:
Attached is a completed Application for a Certificate of Occupancy for 1635 Faraday Drive. As
you know, we expect the tenant improvements being constructed under permit No. CB99-1603 to
be substantially completed by September 30th except for minor punch list items and the
installation of the elevator which is scheduled for the week of October 1 lth.
Accordingly, we request that the Certificate of Occupancy be issued effective October 1st so that
the City of Carlsbad may begin occupying its new Administrative Center. We are pleased to
have been able to serve the City in its expansion and look forward to continuing this service as a
landlord to the City.
