the firm natural ground soils may bedesigned"with an allowable soil

The following are recommended lateralloads to be utilized for

the natural ground soils

: foundations, footings, retaining 'walls, etc.., shall
be based, on an equivalent fluid pressure' of 30 pounds

pressure of 60 pounds per cubic foot.
C. The..passive earth pressure to be used for the design

based on an equivalent fluid pressure of 500 pounds'per
cubic foot.
d. A coefficient of friction may be used btween the soil. '
and the concrete foundations, footings, and floor slabs
on a factor of 0.4 times the dead road. This value may
be used in conjunction with ,the passive earth pressure

Our engineering geologist, ftlr Alfred N Venton, and I visually
inspected ,thè, site and, classified the existing natural ground soils
asred—brown sands. The sands are no'n—expansiv and are part of the.
Pliocene age, beach terrace forniational materials that occur in this
portion of Carlsbad. These formational soils possess excellent bear— '
ing qualities
