The removal of the shear wall at the 2"*^ floor of a 3 story bidg must take into account the overturning of a shortened shear wall. ( Note the height/ length , H/L ratio of the shear wall must be no less than 2:1) The design calc's justifying the shortened shear wall requires HD3B hold down between the end of the shear wall and 2X6 framing below. This is not shown on the structural elevation of the new opening. Detail the HQ on the structural elevation. b. Detail on the plans the construction of the replacement shear wall. (plywood thickness, grade, nailing and any hold downs) The reduced length of the shear wall is 11ft long. Show on the structural elevation of the new opening the location, thickness and nailing of the lift long shear wall. c. Provide design calculations for the new 4X8 header showing that it is adequate to support the LL and DL from the floor above and span the 9ft as shown. The new 4X8 is shown on the structural elevation. Note on the structural detail that the new 4X8 is DP Select Structural Grade.
